31 really executed because I cannot move to such directory on win2k)
32

156-----------------
157
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000158- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
159
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000160- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
161 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
162 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
163 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
164 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
165 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
166 64bit values.
167
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000168- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
169 error.
170
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000171- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
172 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
173 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
174 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
175
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000176- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
177 a unicode argument.

Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000182 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000183 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
184
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000185- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000186 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
187 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
188 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
189 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
190 type object.
191
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000192- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
193
194- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
195
196- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.

Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000200- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
201 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
202
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000203- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
204 ``__delslice__``.
205
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000206- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared

208
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000209- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
210 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
211 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).

Vinay Sajip844f7412008-09-09 13:42:08 +0000322- Issue #3758: Rename the 'check' target to 'patchcheck' so as to not clash
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcfeb8cad2008-09-06 20:53:51 +0000323 with GNU build target guidelines.

331Core and Builtins
332-----------------
333
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000334- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
335 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
336 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
337 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
338 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
339 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
340 default.
341
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000342- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
343 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
344
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000345- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
346 value again.
347
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000348- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
349 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
350 and introducing s*.
351
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000352- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
353 object was stored in the freelist.
354
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000355- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
356 ValueError consistently across platforms.
357
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000358- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
359 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
360 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
361
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000362- Apply security patches from Apple.
363
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000364- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
365 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
366
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000367- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
368 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
369
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000370- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
371 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
372 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
373
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000374- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
375 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
376 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
377 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
378 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
379 failed have been fixed.
380
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000381Library
382-------
383
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000384- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
385
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000386- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
387 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
388
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000389- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
390 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
391 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
392
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000393- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
394 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
395 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
396 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
397 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
398 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
399
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000400- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
401 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
402
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000403- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
404
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000405- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
406
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000407- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
408
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000409- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
410 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
411
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000412- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
413 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
414
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000415- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
416 in a redirect.
417
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000418- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000419 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000420
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000421- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
422 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
423
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000424- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
425 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
426 regular expression.
427
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000428- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
429 thread-safe.
430
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000431- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
432 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
433 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
434
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000435- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
436
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000437- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
438 menu entries were not deleted.
439
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000440- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
441 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
442
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000443- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
444 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
445
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000446- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
447 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
448 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
449
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000450- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
451 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
452 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
453
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000454- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
455 the reload() built-in has been removed.
456
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000457- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000458 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000459 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
460 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
461 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
462 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
463 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000464
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000465- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
466 raised an AttributeError.
467
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000468- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000469 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
470 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000471
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000472- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
473 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.
474
Skip Montanarof9ac43f2008-07-27 00:50:41 +0000475- Issue 3437: Bug fix in robotparser parsing of Allow: lines.
476
Raymond Hettinger8c664e82008-07-25 18:43:33 +0000477- Issue 1592: Improve error reporting when operations are attempted
478 on a closed shelf.
479
Georg Brandlf9efabb2008-07-23 15:16:45 +0000480- Deprecate the "ast" parser function aliases.
481
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000482- Issue #3120: On 64-bit Windows the subprocess module was truncating handles.
483
484- Issue #3303: Fix a crash in locale.strcoll() when calling it with
485 invalid arguments.
486
487- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
488 with None arguments.
489
490- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
491 configuration files.
492
493- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
494
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000495- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
496 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
497 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
498
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000499- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
500 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
501 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.
502
Martin v. Löwis8dbf3642008-08-01 14:10:26 +0000503Build
504-----

506- Generate the PatternGrammar pickle during "make install".
507
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000508Documentation
509-------------
510
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000511- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
512 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
513
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000514- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
515 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
516 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
517 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

524
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000525Core and Builtins
526-----------------
527
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000528- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
529 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
530 an integer using operator.index().
531
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000532- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
533 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
534
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000535- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
536 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
537
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000538- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
539 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
540 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
541
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000542- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
543 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
544 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
545 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
546 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
547 level.
548
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000549- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
550 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
551 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
552 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
553 all imports from that module to fail.
554
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000555- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
556 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
557 new-style classes.
558
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000559- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
560 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
561 another file in sys.stdout.
562
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000563- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
564 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
565 another thread's dictionary.
566
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000567- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
568 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
569 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
570 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
571 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
572 10, -1).
573
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000574- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
575 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
576 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000577
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000578- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
579 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
580 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000581

Thomas Heller57adf222008-08-14 19:10:48 +0000585- Issue #3554: ctypes.string_at and ctypes.wstring_at did call Python
586 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
587 error when they failed.
588
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000589- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.
590
Jesse Noller7fb96402008-07-17 21:01:05 +0000591- Issue #3395: fix reference in test_multiprocessing to old debugInfo method
592
Georg Brandla24869a2008-07-16 22:33:18 +0000593- Issue #3312: Fix two crashes in sqlite3.
594

596
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000597- Issue #3125: Remove copy_reg in multiprocessing and replace it with
598 ForkingPickler.register() to resolve conflict with ctypes.
599
Vinay Sajip51e65192008-07-18 09:01:10 +0000600- Issue #3090: Fixed ARCHFLAGS parsing on OS/X
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000601
Thomas Heller880f5292008-07-15 19:39:38 +0000602- Issue #3313: Fixed a crash when a failed dlopen() call does not set
603 a valid dlerror() message.
604
Thomas Heller2bad6572008-07-15 17:19:50 +0000605- Issue #3258: Fixed a crash when a ctypes POINTER type to an
606 incomplete structure was created.
607
Brett Cannon3d0b9f02008-07-13 01:15:07 +0000608- Issue #3339: dummy_thread.acquire() should not return None.
609
Raymond Hettingerb01713e2008-07-10 14:34:57 +0000610- Issue #3285: Fractions from_float() and from_decimal() accept Integral arguments.
611
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000612- Issue #3301: Bisect module behaved badly when lo was negative.
Raymond Hettinger3cd1e422008-07-10 14:03:19 +0000613
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000614- Issue #839496: SimpleHTTPServer used to open text files in text mode. This is
615 both unnecessary (HTTP allows text content to be sent in several forms) and
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000616 wrong because the actual transmitted size could differ from the
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000617 content-length. The problem had been corrected in the 2.4 branch, but never
618 merged into trunk.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001088- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1089 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1090 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1091 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``

1093 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
1094 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

1156-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001157
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001158- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1159 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1160 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1161 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1162 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1163 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1164 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1165 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1166 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1167 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1168 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1169 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1170 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1171 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1172 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1173 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1174 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1175 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1176 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1177 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1178
1179 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1180 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1181 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1182 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1183 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1184 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1185 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1186 access to the underlying socket used.
1187
1188 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1189 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1190 connect).

Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +00001468 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +00001469
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001470- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1471
1472- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001473
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001474- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001475 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1476
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001477- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1478 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1479 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1480 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1481 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1482 module is:
1483 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1484
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001485- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1486 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1487 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1488 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1489 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1490 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1491
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001492- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1493 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1494 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1495 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1496 PyObject_Format().
1497
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001498- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1499 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1500 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001501
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001502- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001503 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access
1504 a slot on a registered virtual subclass.

1510 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1511 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001512
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001513- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1514 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1515 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001516

1528 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1529 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001530
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001531- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001543- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1544 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1545 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001546

1548 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1549 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1550 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +00001551

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003162- ``PySet_Add()`` can now modify a newly created frozenset. Similarly
3163 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new
3164 frozenset; but it does not steal a reference to the added item.

3176
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003177- Issue #1521: On 64bit platforms, using PyArgs_ParseTuple with the t#
3178 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
3179 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
3180 incorrect results with huge strings.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00003181

3199
3200- Fix some leftovers from the conversion from int to Py_ssize_t
3201 (relevant to strings and sequences of more than 2**31 items).
3202
3203- Make _PyGILState_NoteThreadState() static, it was not used anywhere
3204 outside of pystate.c and should not be necessary.
3205
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003206- ``PyImport_Import`` and ``PyImport_ImportModule`` now always do

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003238- Removed the macfs module. It had been deprecated since Python 2.5.
