158-----------------
159
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000160- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
161
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000162- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
163 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
164 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
165 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
166 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
167 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
168 64bit values.
169
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000170- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
171 error.
172
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000173- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
174 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
175 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
176 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
177
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000178- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
179 a unicode argument.

Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000184 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000185 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
186
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000187- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000188 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
189 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
190 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
191 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
192 type object.
193
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000194- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
195
196- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
197
198- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.

200- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
201
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000202- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
203 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
204
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000205- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
206 ``__delslice__``.
207
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000208- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared

210
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000211- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
212 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
213 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).

Martin v. Löwis67543a92008-09-08 12:02:45 +0000322- Allow passing the MSI file name to merge.py.
323
Vinay Sajip844f7412008-09-09 13:42:08 +0000324- Issue #3758: Rename the 'check' target to 'patchcheck' so as to not clash
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcfeb8cad2008-09-06 20:53:51 +0000325 with GNU build target guidelines.

333Core and Builtins
334-----------------
335
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000336- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
337 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
338 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
339 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
340 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
341 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
342 default.
343
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000344- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
345 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
346
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000347- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
348 value again.
349
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000350- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
351 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
352 and introducing s*.
353
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000354- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
355 object was stored in the freelist.
356
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000357- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
358 ValueError consistently across platforms.
359
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000360- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
361 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
362 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
363
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000364- Apply security patches from Apple.
365
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000366- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
367 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
368
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000369- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
370 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
371
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000372- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
373 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
374 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
375
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000376- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
377 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
378 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
379 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
380 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
381 failed have been fixed.
382
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000383Library
384-------
385
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000386- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
387
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000388- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
389 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
390
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000391- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
392 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
393 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
394
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000395- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
396 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
397 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
398 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
399 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
400 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
401
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000402- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
403 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
404
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000405- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
406
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000407- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
408
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000409- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
410
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000411- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
412 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
413
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000414- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
415 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
416
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000417- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
418 in a redirect.
419
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000420- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000421 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000422
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000423- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
424 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
425
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000426- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
427 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
428 regular expression.
429
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000430- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
431 thread-safe.
432
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000433- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
434 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
435 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
436
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000437- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
438
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000439- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
440 menu entries were not deleted.
441
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000442- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
443 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
444
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000445- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
446 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
447
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000448- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
449 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
450 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
451
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000452- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
453 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
454 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
455
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000456- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
457 the reload() built-in has been removed.
458
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000459- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000460 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000461 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
462 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
463 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
464 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
465 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000466
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000467- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
468 raised an AttributeError.
469
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000470- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000471 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
472 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000473
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000474- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
475 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.
476
Skip Montanarof9ac43f2008-07-27 00:50:41 +0000477- Issue 3437: Bug fix in robotparser parsing of Allow: lines.
478
Raymond Hettinger8c664e82008-07-25 18:43:33 +0000479- Issue 1592: Improve error reporting when operations are attempted
480 on a closed shelf.
481
Georg Brandlf9efabb2008-07-23 15:16:45 +0000482- Deprecate the "ast" parser function aliases.
483
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000484- Issue #3120: On 64-bit Windows the subprocess module was truncating handles.
485
486- Issue #3303: Fix a crash in locale.strcoll() when calling it with
487 invalid arguments.
488
489- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
490 with None arguments.
491
492- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
493 configuration files.
494
495- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
496
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000497- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
498 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
499 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
500
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000501- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
502 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
503 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.
504
Martin v. Löwis8dbf3642008-08-01 14:10:26 +0000505Build

508- Generate the PatternGrammar pickle during "make install".
509
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000510Documentation
511-------------
512
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000513- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
514 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
515
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000516- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
517 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
518 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
519 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

526
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000527Core and Builtins
528-----------------
529
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000530- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
531 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
532 an integer using operator.index().
533
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000534- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
535 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
536
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000537- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
538 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
539
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000540- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
541 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
542 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
543
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000544- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
545 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
546 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
547 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
548 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
549 level.
550
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000551- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
552 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
553 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
554 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
555 all imports from that module to fail.
556
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000557- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
558 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
559 new-style classes.
560
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000561- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
562 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
563 another file in sys.stdout.
564
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000565- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
566 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
567 another thread's dictionary.
568
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000569- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
570 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
571 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
572 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
573 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
574 10, -1).
575
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000576- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
577 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
578 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000579
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000580- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
581 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
582 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000583

Thomas Heller57adf222008-08-14 19:10:48 +0000587- Issue #3554: ctypes.string_at and ctypes.wstring_at did call Python
588 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
589 error when they failed.
590
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000591- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.

598
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000599- Issue #3125: Remove copy_reg in multiprocessing and replace it with

601
Vinay Sajip51e65192008-07-18 09:01:10 +0000602- Issue #3090: Fixed ARCHFLAGS parsing on OS/X
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000603
Thomas Heller880f5292008-07-15 19:39:38 +0000604- Issue #3313: Fixed a crash when a failed dlopen() call does not set
605 a valid dlerror() message.
606
Thomas Heller2bad6572008-07-15 17:19:50 +0000607- Issue #3258: Fixed a crash when a ctypes POINTER type to an
608 incomplete structure was created.
609
Brett Cannon3d0b9f02008-07-13 01:15:07 +0000610- Issue #3339: dummy_thread.acquire() should not return None.
611
Raymond Hettingerb01713e2008-07-10 14:34:57 +0000612- Issue #3285: Fractions from_float() and from_decimal() accept Integral arguments.
613
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000614- Issue #3301: Bisect module behaved badly when lo was negative.
Raymond Hettinger3cd1e422008-07-10 14:03:19 +0000615
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000616- Issue #839496: SimpleHTTPServer used to open text files in text mode. This is
617 both unnecessary (HTTP allows text content to be sent in several forms) and
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000618 wrong because the actual transmitted size could differ from the
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000619 content-length. The problem had been corrected in the 2.4 branch, but never

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001090- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1091 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1092 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1093 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
1094 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
1095 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
1096 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

1158-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001159
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001160- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1161 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1162 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1163 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1164 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1165 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1166 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1167 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1168 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1169 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1170 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1171 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1172 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1173 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1174 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1175 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1176 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1177 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1178 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1179 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1180
1181 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1182 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1183 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1184 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1185 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1186 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1187 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1188 access to the underlying socket used.
1189
1190 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1191 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1192 connect).

Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +00001470 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +00001471
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001472- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1473
1474- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001475

Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001477 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1478
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001479- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1480 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1481 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1482 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1483 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1484 module is:
1485 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1486
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001487- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1488 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1489 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1490 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1491 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1492 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1493
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001494- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1495 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1496 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1497 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1498 PyObject_Format().
1499
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001500- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1501 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1502 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001503
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001504- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

1512 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1513 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001514
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001515- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003164- ``PySet_Add()`` can now modify a newly created frozenset. Similarly
3165 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new
3166 frozenset; but it does not steal a reference to the added item.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003179- Issue #1521: On 64bit platforms, using PyArgs_ParseTuple with the t#
3180 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
3181 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
3182 incorrect results with huge strings.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00003183

3201
3202- Fix some leftovers from the conversion from int to Py_ssize_t
3203 (relevant to strings and sequences of more than 2**31 items).
3204
3205- Make _PyGILState_NoteThreadState() static, it was not used anywhere
3206 outside of pystate.c and should not be necessary.
3207
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003208- ``PyImport_Import`` and ``PyImport_ImportModule`` now always do
