14
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcdc619012008-11-22 20:01:18 +000015- Issue #3996: On Windows, the PyOS_CheckStack function would cause the
16 interpreter to abort ("Fatal Python error: Could not reset the stack!")
17 instead of throwing a MemoryError.
18
Benjamin Petersonc078f922008-11-21 22:27:24 +000019- Issue #4367: Python would segfault during compiling when the unicodedata
20 module couldn't be imported and \N escapes were present.
21
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc32265652008-11-20 23:34:31 +000022- Issue #4233: Changed semantic of ``_fileio.FileIO``'s ``close()``
23 method on file objects with closefd=False. The file descriptor is still
24 kept open but the file object behaves like a closed file. The ``FileIO``
25 object also got a new readonly attribute ``closefd``.
26
Benjamin Peterson46cc6d12008-11-19 21:49:09 +000027- Issue #4348: Some bytearray methods returned that didn't cause any change to
28 the bytearray, returned the same bytearray instead of a copy.
29
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc7cfe7ea2008-11-18 22:19:37 +000030- Issue #4317: Fixed a crash in the imageop.rgb2rgb8() function.

35

41
Benjamin Petersonbdca9422008-10-26 20:21:13 +000042- Issue #4209: Enabling unicode_literals and the print_function in the same
43 __future__ import didn't work.
44
Benjamin Peterson399b1fe2008-10-25 02:53:28 +000045- Using ``nonlocal`` as a variable name will now raise a Py3k SyntaxWarning
Georg Brandl7fb00ad2008-10-25 07:00:52 +000046 because it is a reserved word in 3.x.
Benjamin Peterson399b1fe2008-10-25 02:53:28 +000047
Hirokazu Yamamoto10a018c2008-10-09 10:00:30 +000048- On windows, os.chdir given unicode was not working if GetCurrentDirectoryW
49 returned a path longer than MAX_PATH. (But It's doubtful this code path is
50 really executed because I cannot move to such directory on win2k)
51
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd78b9dc2008-10-07 20:32:10 +000052- Issue #4069: When set.remove(element) is used with a set element, the element
53 is temporarily replaced with an equivalent frozenset. But the eventual
54 KeyError would always report the empty frozenset([]) as the missing key. Now
55 it correctly refers to the initial element.

205-----------------
206
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000207- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
208
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000209- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
210 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
211 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
212 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
213 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
214 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
215 64bit values.
216
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000217- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
218 error.
219
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000220- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
221 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
222 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
223 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
224
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000225- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
226 a unicode argument.
227
Benjamin Peterson17f03ca2008-09-01 14:18:30 +0000228- Issue #3683: Fix compilation when --without-threads is given.
229
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000230- Issue #3668: Fix a memory leak with the "s*" argument parser in
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000231 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000232 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
233
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000234- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000235 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
236 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
237 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
238 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
239 type object.
240
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000241- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
242
243- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
244
245- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
246
247- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
248
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000249- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
250 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
251
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000252- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
253 ``__delslice__``.
254
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000255- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
256 library targets in the Makefile.
257
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000258- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
259 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
260 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).
261

380Core and Builtins
381-----------------
382
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000383- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
384 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
385 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
386 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
387 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
388 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
389 default.
390
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000391- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
392 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
393
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000394- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
395 value again.
396
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000397- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
398 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
399 and introducing s*.
400
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000401- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
402 object was stored in the freelist.
403
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000404- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
405 ValueError consistently across platforms.
406
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000407- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
408 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
409 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
410
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000411- Apply security patches from Apple.
412
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000413- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
414 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
415
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000416- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
417 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
418
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000419- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
420 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
421 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
422
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000423- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
424 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
425 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
426 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
427 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
428 failed have been fixed.
429
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000430Library
431-------
432
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000433- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
434
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000435- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
436 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
437
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000438- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
439 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
440 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
441
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000442- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
443 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
444 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
445 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
446 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
447 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
448
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000449- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
450 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
451
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000452- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
453
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000454- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
455
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000456- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
457
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000458- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
459 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
460
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000461- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
462 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
463
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000464- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
465 in a redirect.
466
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000467- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000468 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000469
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000470- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
471 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
472
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000473- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
474 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
475 regular expression.
476
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000477- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
478 thread-safe.
479
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000480- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
481 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
482 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
483
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000484- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
485
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000486- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
487 menu entries were not deleted.
488
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000489- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
490 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
491
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000492- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
493 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
494
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000495- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
496 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
497 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
498
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000499- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
500 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
501 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
502
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000503- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
504 the reload() built-in has been removed.
505
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000506- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000507 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000508 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
509 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
510 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
511 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
512 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000513
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000514- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
515 raised an AttributeError.
516
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000517- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000518 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
519 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000520
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000521- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
522 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.
523

530
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000531- Issue #3120: On 64-bit Windows the subprocess module was truncating handles.
532

534 invalid arguments.
535
536- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
537 with None arguments.
538
539- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
540 configuration files.
541
542- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
543
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000544- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
545 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
546 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
547
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000548- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
549 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
550 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.

559
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000560- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
561 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
562
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000563- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
564 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
565 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
566 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

573
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000574Core and Builtins
575-----------------
576
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000577- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
578 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
579 an integer using operator.index().
580
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000581- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
582 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
583
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000584- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
585 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
586
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000587- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
588 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
589 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
590
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000591- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
592 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
593 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
594 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
595 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
596 level.
597
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000598- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
599 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
600 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
601 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
602 all imports from that module to fail.
603
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000604- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
605 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
606 new-style classes.
607
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000608- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
609 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
610 another file in sys.stdout.
611
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000612- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
613 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
614 another thread's dictionary.
615
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000616- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
617 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
618 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
619 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
620 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
621 10, -1).
622

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001137- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1138 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1139 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1140 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
1141 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
1142 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
1143 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001186- Issue #2513: distutils on Windows is now capable of cross-compiling
Mark Hammond495cf992008-04-07 01:53:39 +00001187 extension modules between 32 and 64 bit platforms. See the distutls
1188 build documentation for more information.
1189
Gregory P. Smithaa63d0d2008-04-06 23:11:17 +00001190- Issue #815646: Individual file objects may now be used from multiple
1191 threads at once without fear of crashing the Python interpreter. If
1192 file.close() is called while an object is in use by another thread
1193 an IOError exception will be raised and the file will not be closed.
1194
Thomas Hellerf7906482008-04-04 19:43:25 +00001195- The bundled libffi copy is now in sync with the recently released
1196 libffi3.0.5 version, apart from some small changes to
1197 Modules/_ctypes/libffi/configure.ac.
1198
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001199- Issue #2385: distutils.core.run_script() makes __file__ available,
1200 so the controlled environment will more closely mirror the typical
1201 script environment. This supports setup.py scripts that refer to
1202 data files.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001207- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1208 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1209 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1210 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1211 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1212 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1213 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1214 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1215 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1216 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1217 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1218 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1219 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1220 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1221 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1222 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1223 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1224 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1225 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1226 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1227
1228 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1229 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1230 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1231 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1232 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1233 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1234 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1235 access to the underlying socket used.
1236
1237 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1238 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1239 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001240
1241 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001242 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001243 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
1244 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
1245
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001246 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
1247 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001519- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1520
1521- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001522
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001523- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001524 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1525
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001526- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1527 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1528 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1529 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1530 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1531 module is:
1532 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1533
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001534- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1535 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1536 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1537 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1538 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1539 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1540
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001541- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1542 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1543 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1544 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1545 PyObject_Format().
1546
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001547- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1548 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1549 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001550
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001551- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

1559 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1560 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001561
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001562- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1563 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1564 to a bound method.

1578 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001579

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001592- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1593 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1594 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001595

3207 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``

3212 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003226- Issue #1521: On 64bit platforms, using PyArgs_ParseTuple with the t#
3227 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
3228 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
3229 incorrect results with huge strings.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00003230

3249- Fix some leftovers from the conversion from int to Py_ssize_t
3250 (relevant to strings and sequences of more than 2**31 items).
3251
3252- Make _PyGILState_NoteThreadState() static, it was not used anywhere
3253 outside of pystate.c and should not be necessary.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003287- Removed the macfs module. It had been deprecated since Python 2.5.
