22 returned a path longer than MAX_PATH. (But It's doubtful this code path is
23 really executed because I cannot move to such directory on win2k)
24
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd78b9dc2008-10-07 20:32:10 +000025- Issue #4069: When set.remove(element) is used with a set element, the element
26 is temporarily replaced with an equivalent frozenset. But the eventual
27 KeyError would always report the empty frozenset([]) as the missing key. Now
28 it correctly refers to the initial element.

142Core and Builtins
143-----------------
144
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000145- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
146
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000147- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
148 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
149 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
150 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
151 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
152 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
153 64bit values.
154
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000155- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
156 error.
157
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000158- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
159 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
160 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
161 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
162
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000163- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
164 a unicode argument.
165

Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000169 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000170 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
171
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000172- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000173 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
174 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
175 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
176 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
177 type object.
178
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000179- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
180
181- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
182
183- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
184
185- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
186
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000187- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
188 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
189
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000190- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
191 ``__delslice__``.
192
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000193- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
194 library targets in the Makefile.
195
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000196- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
197 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
198 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).

217 with statements, or when the methods are invoked in the wrong order.

Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000321- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
322 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
323 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
324 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
325 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
326 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
327 default.
328
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000329- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
330 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
331
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000332- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
333 value again.
334
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000335- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
336 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
337 and introducing s*.
338
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000339- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
340 object was stored in the freelist.
341
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000342- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
343 ValueError consistently across platforms.
344
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000345- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
346 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
347 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
348
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000349- Apply security patches from Apple.
350
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000351- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
352 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
353
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000354- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
355 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
356
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000357- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
358 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
359 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
360
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000361- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
362 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
363 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
364 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
365 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
366 failed have been fixed.

370
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000371- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
372
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000373- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
374 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
375
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000376- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
377 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
378 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
379
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000380- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
381 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
382 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
383 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
384 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
385 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
386
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000387- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
388 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
389
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000390- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
391
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000392- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
393
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000394- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
395
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000396- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
397 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
398
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000399- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
400 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
401
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000402- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
403 in a redirect.
404
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000405- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000406 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000407
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000408- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
409 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
410
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000411- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
412 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
413 regular expression.
414
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000415- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
416 thread-safe.
417
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000418- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
419 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
420 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
421
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000422- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.

Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000424- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
425 menu entries were not deleted.
426
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000427- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
428 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
429
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000430- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
431 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
432
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000433- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
434 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
435 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
436
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000437- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
438 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
439 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
440
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000441- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
442 the reload() built-in has been removed.
443
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000444- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000445 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,

Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000451
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000452- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
453 raised an AttributeError.
454
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000455- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000456 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
457 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000458
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000459- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification

479
480- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
481
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000482- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
483 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
484 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
485
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000486- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
487 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
488 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.

497
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000498- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
499 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
500
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000501- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
502 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
503 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
504 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

511
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000512Core and Builtins
513-----------------
514
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000515- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
516 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
517 an integer using operator.index().
518
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000519- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
520 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
521
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000522- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
523 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
524
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000525- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
526 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
527 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
528
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000529- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
530 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
531 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
532 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
533 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
534 level.
535
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000536- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
537 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
538 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
539 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
540 all imports from that module to fail.
541
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000542- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
543 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
544 new-style classes.
545
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000546- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
547 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
548 another file in sys.stdout.
549
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000550- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
551 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
552 another thread's dictionary.
553
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000554- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
555 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
556 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
557 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
558 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
559 10, -1).
560
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000561- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
562 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
563 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000564
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000565- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
566 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
567 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000568

570-------
571
Thomas Heller57adf222008-08-14 19:10:48 +0000572- Issue #3554: ctypes.string_at and ctypes.wstring_at did call Python
573 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
574 error when they failed.
575
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000576- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.
577
Jesse Noller7fb96402008-07-17 21:01:05 +0000578- Issue #3395: fix reference in test_multiprocessing to old debugInfo method

583
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000584- Issue #3125: Remove copy_reg in multiprocessing and replace it with
585 ForkingPickler.register() to resolve conflict with ctypes.
586
Vinay Sajip51e65192008-07-18 09:01:10 +0000587- Issue #3090: Fixed ARCHFLAGS parsing on OS/X
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000588
Thomas Heller880f5292008-07-15 19:39:38 +0000589- Issue #3313: Fixed a crash when a failed dlopen() call does not set
590 a valid dlerror() message.
591
Thomas Heller2bad6572008-07-15 17:19:50 +0000592- Issue #3258: Fixed a crash when a ctypes POINTER type to an
593 incomplete structure was created.
594
Brett Cannon3d0b9f02008-07-13 01:15:07 +0000595- Issue #3339: dummy_thread.acquire() should not return None.
596
Raymond Hettingerb01713e2008-07-10 14:34:57 +0000597- Issue #3285: Fractions from_float() and from_decimal() accept Integral arguments.
598
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000599- Issue #3301: Bisect module behaved badly when lo was negative.
Raymond Hettinger3cd1e422008-07-10 14:03:19 +0000600
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000601- Issue #839496: SimpleHTTPServer used to open text files in text mode. This is
602 both unnecessary (HTTP allows text content to be sent in several forms) and
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000603 wrong because the actual transmitted size could differ from the
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000604 content-length. The problem had been corrected in the 2.4 branch, but never
605 merged into trunk.
606
Georg Brandle78fbcc2008-07-05 10:13:36 +0000607- Issue #2663: add filtering capability to shutil.copytree().
608

610
611- Issue #1526: Allow more than 64k files to be added to Zip64 file.
612
613- Issue #1746: Correct handling of zipfile archive comments (previously
614 archives with comments over 4k were flagged as invalid). Allow writing
Vinay Sajip51e65192008-07-18 09:01:10 +0000615 Zip files with archives by setting the 'comment' attribute of a ZipFile.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001075- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1076 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1077 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1078 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
1079 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
1080 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
1081 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001145- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1146 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1147 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1148 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1149 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1150 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1151 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1152 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1153 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1154 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1155 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1156 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1157 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1158 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1159 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1160 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1161 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1162 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1163 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1164 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1165
1166 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1167 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1168 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1169 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1170 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1171 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1172 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1173 access to the underlying socket used.
1174
1175 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1176 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1177 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001178

Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +00001455 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +00001456
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001457- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1458
1459- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001460
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001461- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001462 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1463
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001464- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1465 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1466 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1467 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1468 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1469 module is:
1470 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1471
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001472- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1473 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1474 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1475 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1476 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1477 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1478
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001479- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1480 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1481 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1482 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1483 PyObject_Format().
1484
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001485- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1486 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1487 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001488
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001489- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001490 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access
1491 a slot on a registered virtual subclass.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc60d6c7f2008-02-15 21:22:45 +00001492
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001493- Fixed repr() and str() of complex numbers with infinity or nan as
1494 real or imaginary part.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001496- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1497 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1498 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001499
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001500- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1501 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1502 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001503
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001504- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1505 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1506
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001507- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256
1508 entries each.
Christian Heimes6075a822008-02-06 12:44:34 +00001509

1515 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1516 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001517
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001518- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001530- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1531 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1532 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001533

1535 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1536 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1537 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +00001538

Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +00001718- Bug #1683368: The object.__init__() and object.__new__() methods are
1719 now stricter in rejecting excess arguments. The only time when
1720 either allows excess arguments is when it is not overridden and the
1721 other one is. For backwards compatibility, when both are
1722 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +00001723 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature
