16 module couldn't be imported and \N escapes were present.
17
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc32265652008-11-20 23:34:31 +000018- Issue #4233: Changed semantic of ``_fileio.FileIO``'s ``close()``
19 method on file objects with closefd=False. The file descriptor is still
20 kept open but the file object behaves like a closed file. The ``FileIO``
21 object also got a new readonly attribute ``closefd``.
22
Benjamin Peterson46cc6d12008-11-19 21:49:09 +000023- Issue #4348: Some bytearray methods returned that didn't cause any change to
24 the bytearray, returned the same bytearray instead of a copy.
25
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc7cfe7ea2008-11-18 22:19:37 +000026- Issue #4317: Fixed a crash in the imageop.rgb2rgb8() function.

31

Benjamin Petersonbdca9422008-10-26 20:21:13 +000038- Issue #4209: Enabling unicode_literals and the print_function in the same
39 __future__ import didn't work.
40
Benjamin Peterson399b1fe2008-10-25 02:53:28 +000041- Using ``nonlocal`` as a variable name will now raise a Py3k SyntaxWarning
Georg Brandl7fb00ad2008-10-25 07:00:52 +000042 because it is a reserved word in 3.x.
Benjamin Peterson399b1fe2008-10-25 02:53:28 +000043
Hirokazu Yamamoto10a018c2008-10-09 10:00:30 +000044- On windows, os.chdir given unicode was not working if GetCurrentDirectoryW
45 returned a path longer than MAX_PATH. (But It's doubtful this code path is
46 really executed because I cannot move to such directory on win2k)
47
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd78b9dc2008-10-07 20:32:10 +000048- Issue #4069: When set.remove(element) is used with a set element, the element
49 is temporarily replaced with an equivalent frozenset. But the eventual
50 KeyError would always report the empty frozenset([]) as the missing key. Now
51 it correctly refers to the initial element.

170
171- Issue #3850: recursion tests in Misc/find_recursion_limit.py can raise
172 AttributeError instead of RuntimeError, depending in which C API call
173 exactly the recursion limit is exceeded. Consequently, both exception types
174 are caught and silenced.

189-----------------
190
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000191- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
192
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000193- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
194 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
195 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
196 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
197 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
198 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
199 64bit values.
200
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000201- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
202 error.
203
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000204- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
205 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
206 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
207 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
208
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000209- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
210 a unicode argument.
211

Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000215 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000216 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
217
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000218- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000219 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
220 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
221 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
222 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
223 type object.
224
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000225- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
226
227- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
228
229- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
230
231- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
232
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000233- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
234 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
235
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000236- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
237 ``__delslice__``.
238
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000239- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
240 library targets in the Makefile.
241
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000242- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
243 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
244 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).
245

329
Gerhard Häringe6872eb2008-09-12 22:33:22 +0000330- Issue #3846: Release the GIL during sqlite3_prepare calls. This improves
331 concurrent access to the same SQLite database from multiple
332 threads/processes.

364Core and Builtins
365-----------------
366
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000367- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
368 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
369 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
370 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
371 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
372 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
373 default.
374
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000375- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
376 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
377
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000378- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
379 value again.
380
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000381- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
382 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
383 and introducing s*.
384
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000385- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
386 object was stored in the freelist.
387
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000388- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
389 ValueError consistently across platforms.
390
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000391- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
392 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
393 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
394
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000395- Apply security patches from Apple.
396
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000397- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
398 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
399
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000400- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
401 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
402
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000403- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
404 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
405 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
406
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000407- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
408 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
409 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
410 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
411 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
412 failed have been fixed.
413
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000414Library
415-------
416
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000417- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
418
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000419- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
420 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
421
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000422- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
423 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
424 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
425
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000426- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
427 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
428 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
429 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
430 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
431 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
432
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000433- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
434 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
435
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000436- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
437
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000438- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
439
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000440- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
441
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000442- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
443 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
444
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000445- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
446 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
447
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000448- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
449 in a redirect.
450
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000451- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000452 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000453
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000454- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
455 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
456
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000457- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
458 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
459 regular expression.
460
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000461- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
462 thread-safe.
463
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000464- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
465 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
466 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
467
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000468- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
469
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000470- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
471 menu entries were not deleted.
472
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000473- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
474 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
475
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000476- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
477 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
478
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000479- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
480 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
481 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
482
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000483- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
484 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
485 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
486
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000487- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
488 the reload() built-in has been removed.
489
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000490- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000491 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000492 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
493 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
494 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
495 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
496 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000497
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000498- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
499 raised an AttributeError.
500
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000501- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000502 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
503 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000504
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000505- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
506 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.
507

509
Raymond Hettinger8c664e82008-07-25 18:43:33 +0000510- Issue 1592: Improve error reporting when operations are attempted
511 on a closed shelf.
512

514
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000515- Issue #3120: On 64-bit Windows the subprocess module was truncating handles.
516

518 invalid arguments.
519
520- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
521 with None arguments.
522
523- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
524 configuration files.
525
526- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
527
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000528- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
529 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
530 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
531
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000532- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
533 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
534 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.

542-------------
543
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000544- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
545 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
546
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000547- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
548 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
549 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
550 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

557
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000558Core and Builtins
559-----------------
560
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000561- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
562 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
563 an integer using operator.index().
564
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000565- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
566 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
567
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000568- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
569 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
570
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000571- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
572 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
573 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
574
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000575- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
576 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
577 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
578 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
579 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
580 level.
581
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000582- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
583 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
584 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
585 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
586 all imports from that module to fail.
587
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000588- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
589 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
590 new-style classes.
591
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000592- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
593 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
594 another file in sys.stdout.
595
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000596- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
597 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
598 another thread's dictionary.
599
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000600- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
601 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
602 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
603 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
604 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
605 10, -1).
606
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000607- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
608 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
609 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000610
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000611- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
612 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
613 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000614

Thomas Heller57adf222008-08-14 19:10:48 +0000618- Issue #3554: ctypes.string_at and ctypes.wstring_at did call Python
619 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
620 error when they failed.
621
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000622- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.
623

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001121- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1122 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1123 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1124 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
1125 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
1126 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
1127 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001191- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1192 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1193 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1194 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1195 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1196 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1197 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1198 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1199 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1200 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1201 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1202 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1203 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1204 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1205 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1206 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1207 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1208 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1209 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1210 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1211
1212 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1213 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1214 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1215 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1216 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1217 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1218 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1219 access to the underlying socket used.
1220
1221 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1222 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1223 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001224
1225 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001226 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

1228 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
1229
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001230 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
1231 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001503- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1504
1505- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001506
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001507- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001508 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1509
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001510- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1511 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1512 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1513 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1514 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1515 module is:
1516 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1517
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001518- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1519 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1520 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1521 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1522 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1523 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1524
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001525- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1526 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1527 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1528 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1529 PyObject_Format().
1530
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001531- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1532 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1533 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001534
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001535- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001542- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1543 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1544 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001545
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001546- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1547 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1548 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001549
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001550- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1551 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1552

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001576- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1577 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1578 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001579

1581 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1582 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1583 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.

3188-----
3189
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003190- Unified naming convention for free lists and their limits. All free
3191 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``
3192 and the upper limit is a macro ``PyName_MAXFREELIST`` inside an
3193 #ifndef block.
Christian Heimes5b970ad2008-02-06 13:33:44 +00003194
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003195- ``PySet_Add()`` can now modify a newly created frozenset. Similarly
3196 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new
3197 frozenset; but it does not steal a reference to the added item.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arccab3d982008-02-03 22:51:43 +00003198

3211 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
3212 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
3213 incorrect results with huge strings.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00003214

3234 (relevant to strings and sequences of more than 2**31 items).
3235
