16 module couldn't be imported and \N escapes were present.
17
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc32265652008-11-20 23:34:31 +000018- Issue #4233: Changed semantic of ``_fileio.FileIO``'s ``close()``
19 method on file objects with closefd=False. The file descriptor is still
20 kept open but the file object behaves like a closed file. The ``FileIO``
21 object also got a new readonly attribute ``closefd``.
22
Benjamin Peterson46cc6d12008-11-19 21:49:09 +000023- Issue #4348: Some bytearray methods returned that didn't cause any change to
24 the bytearray, returned the same bytearray instead of a copy.
25
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc7cfe7ea2008-11-18 22:19:37 +000026- Issue #4317: Fixed a crash in the imageop.rgb2rgb8() function.

31

39 __future__ import didn't work.
40
Benjamin Peterson399b1fe2008-10-25 02:53:28 +000041- Using ``nonlocal`` as a variable name will now raise a Py3k SyntaxWarning
Georg Brandl7fb00ad2008-10-25 07:00:52 +000042 because it is a reserved word in 3.x.
Benjamin Peterson399b1fe2008-10-25 02:53:28 +000043
Hirokazu Yamamoto10a018c2008-10-09 10:00:30 +000044- On windows, os.chdir given unicode was not working if GetCurrentDirectoryW
45 returned a path longer than MAX_PATH. (But It's doubtful this code path is
46 really executed because I cannot move to such directory on win2k)
47
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd78b9dc2008-10-07 20:32:10 +000048- Issue #4069: When set.remove(element) is used with a set element, the element
49 is temporarily replaced with an equivalent frozenset. But the eventual
50 KeyError would always report the empty frozenset([]) as the missing key. Now
51 it correctly refers to the initial element.

168
169- Issue #3850: recursion tests in Misc/find_recursion_limit.py can raise
170 AttributeError instead of RuntimeError, depending in which C API call
171 exactly the recursion limit is exceeded. Consequently, both exception types
172 are caught and silenced.

187-----------------
188
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000189- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
190
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000191- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
192 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
193 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
194 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
195 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
196 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
197 64bit values.
198
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000199- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
200 error.
201
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000202- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
203 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
204 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
205 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
206
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000207- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
208 a unicode argument.
209

Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000213 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000214 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
215
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000216- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000217 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
218 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
219 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
220 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
221 type object.
222
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000223- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
224
225- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
226
227- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
228
229- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
230
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000231- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
232 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
233
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000234- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
235 ``__delslice__``.
236
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000237- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
238 library targets in the Makefile.
239
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000240- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
241 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
242 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).
243

251
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc24cb3822008-09-11 20:56:13 +0000252- Issue #3640: Pickling a list or a dict uses less local variables, to reduce
253 stack usage in the case of deeply nested objects.

362Core and Builtins
363-----------------
364
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000365- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
366 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
367 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
368 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
369 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
370 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
371 default.
372
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000373- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
374 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
375
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000376- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
377 value again.
378
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000379- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
380 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
381 and introducing s*.
382
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000383- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
384 object was stored in the freelist.
385
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000386- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
387 ValueError consistently across platforms.
388
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000389- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
390 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
391 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
392
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000393- Apply security patches from Apple.
394
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000395- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
396 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
397
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000398- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
399 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
400
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000401- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
402 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
403 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
404
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000405- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
406 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
407 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
408 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
409 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
410 failed have been fixed.
411

413-------
414
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000415- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
416
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000417- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
418 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
419
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000420- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
421 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
422 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
423
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000424- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
425 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
426 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
427 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
428 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
429 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
430
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000431- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
432 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
433
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000434- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
435
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000436- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
437
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000438- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
439
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000440- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
441 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
442
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000443- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
444 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
445
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000446- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
447 in a redirect.
448
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000449- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000450 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000451
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000452- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
453 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
454
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000455- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
456 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
457 regular expression.
458
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000459- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
460 thread-safe.
461
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000462- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
463 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
464 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
465
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000466- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
467
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000468- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
469 menu entries were not deleted.
470
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000471- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
472 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
473
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000474- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
475 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
476
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000477- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
478 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
479 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
480
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000481- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
482 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
483 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
484
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000485- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
486 the reload() built-in has been removed.
487
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000488- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000489 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000490 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,

492 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
493 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
494 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000495
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000496- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
497 raised an AttributeError.
498
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000499- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000500 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
501 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000502
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000503- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
504 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.

516 invalid arguments.
517
518- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
519 with None arguments.
520
521- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
522 configuration files.
523
524- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
525
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000526- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
527 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
528 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
529
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000530- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
531 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
532 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.

544
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000545- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
546 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
547 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
548 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

555
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000556Core and Builtins
557-----------------
558
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000559- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
560 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
561 an integer using operator.index().
562
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000563- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
564 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
565
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000566- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
567 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
568
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000569- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
570 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
571 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
572
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000573- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
574 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
575 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
576 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
577 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
578 level.
579
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000580- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
581 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
582 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
583 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
584 all imports from that module to fail.
585
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000586- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
587 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
588 new-style classes.
589
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000590- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
591 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
592 another file in sys.stdout.
593
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000594- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
595 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
596 another thread's dictionary.
597
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000598- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
599 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
600 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
601 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
602 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
603 10, -1).
604
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000605- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
606 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
607 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000608
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000609- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
610 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
611 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000612

Thomas Heller57adf222008-08-14 19:10:48 +0000616- Issue #3554: ctypes.string_at and ctypes.wstring_at did call Python
617 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
618 error when they failed.
619
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000620- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.
621

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001119- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1120 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1121 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1122 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001189- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1190 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1191 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1192 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1193 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1194 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1195 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1196 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1197 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1198 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1199 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1200 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1201 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1202 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1203 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1204 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1205 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1206 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1207 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1208 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1209
1210 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1211 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1212 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1213 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1214 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1215 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1216 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1217 access to the underlying socket used.
1218
1219 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1220 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1221 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001222
1223 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001224 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

1226 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
1227
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001228 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
1229 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001501- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1502
1503- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001504
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001505- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001506 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1507
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001508- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1509 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1510 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1511 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1512 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1513 module is:
1514 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1515
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001516- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1517 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1518 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1519 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1520 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1521 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1522
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001523- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1524 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1525 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1526 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1527 PyObject_Format().
1528
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001529- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1530 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1531 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001532
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001533- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001540- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1541 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1542 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001543
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001544- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1545 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1546 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001547
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001548- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1549 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1550

1579 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1580 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1581 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.

3186-----
3187
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003188- Unified naming convention for free lists and their limits. All free
3189 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``
3190 and the upper limit is a macro ``PyName_MAXFREELIST`` inside an
3191 #ifndef block.
Christian Heimes5b970ad2008-02-06 13:33:44 +00003192
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003193- ``PySet_Add()`` can now modify a newly created frozenset. Similarly
3194 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new
3195 frozenset; but it does not steal a reference to the added item.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arccab3d982008-02-03 22:51:43 +00003196

3207
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003208- Issue #1521: On 64bit platforms, using PyArgs_ParseTuple with the t#
3209 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
3210 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
3211 incorrect results with huge strings.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00003212

3231- Fix some leftovers from the conversion from int to Py_ssize_t
3232 (relevant to strings and sequences of more than 2**31 items).
3233
3234- Make _PyGILState_NoteThreadState() static, it was not used anywhere
