14
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcdc619012008-11-22 20:01:18 +000015- Issue #3996: On Windows, the PyOS_CheckStack function would cause the
16 interpreter to abort ("Fatal Python error: Could not reset the stack!")
17 instead of throwing a MemoryError.
18
Benjamin Petersonc078f922008-11-21 22:27:24 +000019- Issue #4367: Python would segfault during compiling when the unicodedata
20 module couldn't be imported and \N escapes were present.
21
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc32265652008-11-20 23:34:31 +000022- Issue #4233: Changed semantic of ``_fileio.FileIO``'s ``close()``
23 method on file objects with closefd=False. The file descriptor is still
24 kept open but the file object behaves like a closed file. The ``FileIO``
25 object also got a new readonly attribute ``closefd``.
26
Benjamin Peterson46cc6d12008-11-19 21:49:09 +000027- Issue #4348: Some bytearray methods returned that didn't cause any change to
28 the bytearray, returned the same bytearray instead of a copy.
29
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc7cfe7ea2008-11-18 22:19:37 +000030- Issue #4317: Fixed a crash in the imageop.rgb2rgb8() function.

37 exec statement.
38
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc69a9c5b2008-10-30 21:18:34 +000039- Issue #4176: Fixed a crash when pickling an object which ``__reduce__``
40 method does not return iterators for the 4th and 5th items.
41
Benjamin Petersonbdca9422008-10-26 20:21:13 +000042- Issue #4209: Enabling unicode_literals and the print_function in the same
43 __future__ import didn't work.
44
Benjamin Peterson399b1fe2008-10-25 02:53:28 +000045- Using ``nonlocal`` as a variable name will now raise a Py3k SyntaxWarning
Georg Brandl7fb00ad2008-10-25 07:00:52 +000046 because it is a reserved word in 3.x.
Benjamin Peterson399b1fe2008-10-25 02:53:28 +000047
Hirokazu Yamamoto10a018c2008-10-09 10:00:30 +000048- On windows, os.chdir given unicode was not working if GetCurrentDirectoryW
49 returned a path longer than MAX_PATH. (But It's doubtful this code path is
50 really executed because I cannot move to such directory on win2k)
51
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd78b9dc2008-10-07 20:32:10 +000052- Issue #4069: When set.remove(element) is used with a set element, the element
53 is temporarily replaced with an equivalent frozenset. But the eventual
54 KeyError would always report the empty frozenset([]) as the missing key. Now
55 it correctly refers to the initial element.

203-----------------
204
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000205- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
206
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000207- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
208 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
209 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
210 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
211 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
212 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
213 64bit values.
214
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000215- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
216 error.
217
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000218- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
219 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
220 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
221 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
222
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000223- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
224 a unicode argument.
225
Benjamin Peterson17f03ca2008-09-01 14:18:30 +0000226- Issue #3683: Fix compilation when --without-threads is given.

Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000229 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000230 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
231
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000232- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000233 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
234 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
235 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
236 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
237 type object.
238
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000239- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
240
241- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
242
243- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
244
245- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
246
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000247- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
248 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
249
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000250- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
251 ``__delslice__``.
252
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000253- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
254 library targets in the Makefile.
255
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000256- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
257 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
258 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).
259
Benjamin Peterson14cb6bc2008-08-26 17:08:40 +0000260C-API

267
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc24cb3822008-09-11 20:56:13 +0000268- Issue #3640: Pickling a list or a dict uses less local variables, to reduce
269 stack usage in the case of deeply nested objects.

378Core and Builtins
379-----------------
380
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000381- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
382 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
383 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
384 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
385 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
386 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
387 default.
388
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000389- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
390 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
391
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000392- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
393 value again.
394
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000395- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
396 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
397 and introducing s*.
398
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000399- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
400 object was stored in the freelist.
401
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000402- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
403 ValueError consistently across platforms.
404
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000405- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
406 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
407 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
408
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000409- Apply security patches from Apple.
410
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000411- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
412 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
413
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000414- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
415 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
416
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000417- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
418 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
419 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
420
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000421- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
422 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
423 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
424 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
425 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
426 failed have been fixed.
427
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000428Library
429-------
430
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000431- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
432
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000433- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
434 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
435
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000436- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
437 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
438 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
439
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000440- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
441 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
442 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
443 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
444 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
445 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
446
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000447- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
448 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
449
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000450- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
451
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000452- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
453
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000454- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
455
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000456- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
457 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
458
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000459- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
460 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
461
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000462- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
463 in a redirect.
464
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000465- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000466 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000467
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000468- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
469 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
470
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000471- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
472 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
473 regular expression.
474
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000475- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
476 thread-safe.
477
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000478- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
479 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
480 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
481
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000482- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
483
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000484- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
485 menu entries were not deleted.
486
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000487- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
488 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
489
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000490- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
491 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
492
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000493- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
494 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
495 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
496
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000497- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
498 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
499 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
500
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000501- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
502 the reload() built-in has been removed.
503
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000504- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000505 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000506 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
507 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
508 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
509 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
510 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000511
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000512- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
513 raised an AttributeError.
514
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000515- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000516 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
517 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000518
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000519- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
520 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.
521

528
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000529- Issue #3120: On 64-bit Windows the subprocess module was truncating handles.
530

532 invalid arguments.
533
534- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
535 with None arguments.
536
537- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
538 configuration files.
539
540- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
541
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000542- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
543 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
544 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
545
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000546- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
547 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
548 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.

557
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000558- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
559 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
560
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000561- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
562 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
563 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
564 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

571
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000572Core and Builtins
573-----------------
574
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000575- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
576 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
577 an integer using operator.index().
578
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000579- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
580 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
581
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000582- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
583 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
584
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000585- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
586 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
587 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
588
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000589- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
590 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
591 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
592 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
593 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
594 level.
595
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000596- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
597 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
598 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
599 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
600 all imports from that module to fail.
601
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000602- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
603 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
604 new-style classes.
605
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000606- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
607 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
608 another file in sys.stdout.
609
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000610- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
611 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
612 another thread's dictionary.
613
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000614- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
615 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
616 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
617 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
618 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
619 10, -1).
620
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000621- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
622 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
623 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001135- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1136 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1137 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1138 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
1139 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
1140 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
1141 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

Gregory P. Smithaa63d0d2008-04-06 23:11:17 +00001188- Issue #815646: Individual file objects may now be used from multiple
1189 threads at once without fear of crashing the Python interpreter. If
1190 file.close() is called while an object is in use by another thread
1191 an IOError exception will be raised and the file will not be closed.
1192
Thomas Hellerf7906482008-04-04 19:43:25 +00001193- The bundled libffi copy is now in sync with the recently released
1194 libffi3.0.5 version, apart from some small changes to
1195 Modules/_ctypes/libffi/configure.ac.
1196
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001197- Issue #2385: distutils.core.run_script() makes __file__ available,
1198 so the controlled environment will more closely mirror the typical
1199 script environment. This supports setup.py scripts that refer to
1200 data files.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001205- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1206 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1207 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1208 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1209 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1210 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1211 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1212 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1213 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1214 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1215 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1216 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1217 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1218 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1219 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1220 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1221 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1222 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1223 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1224 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1225
1226 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1227 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1228 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1229 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1230 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1231 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1232 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1233 access to the underlying socket used.
1234
1235 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1236 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1237 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001238
1239 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:

1245 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001517- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1518
1519- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001520
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001521- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001522 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1523
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001524- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1525 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1526 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1527 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1528 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1529 module is:
1530 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1531
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001532- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1533 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1534 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1535 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1536 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1537 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1538
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001539- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1540 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1541 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1542 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1543 PyObject_Format().
1544
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001545- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1546 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1547 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001548
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001549- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

1557 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1558 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001559
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001560- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1561 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1562 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001563

1575 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1576 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001577

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001705- Issue #1686386: Tuple's tp_repr did not take into account the
1706 possibility of having a self-referential tuple, which is possible
1707 from C code. Nor did object's tp_str consider that a type's tp_str
1708 could do something that could lead to an inifinite recursion.
1709 Py_ReprEnter() and Py_EnterRecursiveCall(), respectively, fixed the
1710 issues.

3203
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003204- Unified naming convention for free lists and their limits. All free
3205 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``
3206 and the upper limit is a macro ``PyName_MAXFREELIST`` inside an
3207 #ifndef block.
Christian Heimes5b970ad2008-02-06 13:33:44 +00003208
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003209- ``PySet_Add()`` can now modify a newly created frozenset. Similarly
3210 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new
3211 frozenset; but it does not steal a reference to the added item.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arccab3d982008-02-03 22:51:43 +00003212

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003224- Issue #1521: On 64bit platforms, using PyArgs_ParseTuple with the t#
3225 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
3226 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
3227 incorrect results with huge strings.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00003228

3247- Fix some leftovers from the conversion from int to Py_ssize_t
3248 (relevant to strings and sequences of more than 2**31 items).
3249
3250- Make _PyGILState_NoteThreadState() static, it was not used anywhere
