290 when passed a value less than or equal to zero.
Gregory P. Smith671c5d92008-04-09 18:18:43 +0000291
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000292- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
293 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
294 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
295 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
296 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
297 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
298 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support
299 for the ``line`` argument will raise a DeprecationWarning.

360-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000361
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000362- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
363 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
364 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
365 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
366 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
367 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
368 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
369 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
370 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
371 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
372 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
373 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
374 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
375 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
376 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
377 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
378 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
379 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
380 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
381 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
382
383 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
384 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
385 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
386 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
387 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
388 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
389 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
390 access to the underlying socket used.
391
392 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
393 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
394 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000395
396 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000397 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

399 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
400
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000401 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
402 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000457 \Uxxxxxxxx did not accept values outside the Basic Multilingual

460 this case, like normal unicode literals and the 'unicode-escape'

675
676- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +0000677
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000678- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +0000679 issue 215555 for a discussion.
680
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000681- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
682 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
683 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
684 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
685 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
686 module is:
687 from future_builtins import hex, oct
688
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000689- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
690 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
691 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
692 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
693 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
694 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
695
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000696- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
697 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
698 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
699 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
700 PyObject_Format().
701
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000702- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
703 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
704 state.

715 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000716
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000717- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
718 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
719 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +0000720
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +0000721- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
722 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
723
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000724- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000727- Patch #1953: Added ``sys._compact_freelists()`` and the C API
728 functions ``PyInt_CompactFreeList`` and ``PyFloat_CompactFreeList``

732 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
733 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000734
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000735- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

748 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
749 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +0000750

752 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
753 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
754 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
