13-----------------
14
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc32265652008-11-20 23:34:31 +000015- Issue #4233: Changed semantic of ``_fileio.FileIO``'s ``close()``
16 method on file objects with closefd=False. The file descriptor is still
17 kept open but the file object behaves like a closed file. The ``FileIO``
18 object also got a new readonly attribute ``closefd``.
19
Benjamin Peterson46cc6d12008-11-19 21:49:09 +000020- Issue #4348: Some bytearray methods returned that didn't cause any change to
21 the bytearray, returned the same bytearray instead of a copy.
22
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc7cfe7ea2008-11-18 22:19:37 +000023- Issue #4317: Fixed a crash in the imageop.rgb2rgb8() function.

34
Benjamin Petersonbdca9422008-10-26 20:21:13 +000035- Issue #4209: Enabling unicode_literals and the print_function in the same
36 __future__ import didn't work.
37
Benjamin Peterson399b1fe2008-10-25 02:53:28 +000038- Using ``nonlocal`` as a variable name will now raise a Py3k SyntaxWarning
Georg Brandl7fb00ad2008-10-25 07:00:52 +000039 because it is a reserved word in 3.x.
Benjamin Peterson399b1fe2008-10-25 02:53:28 +000040
Hirokazu Yamamoto10a018c2008-10-09 10:00:30 +000041- On windows, os.chdir given unicode was not working if GetCurrentDirectoryW
42 returned a path longer than MAX_PATH. (But It's doubtful this code path is
43 really executed because I cannot move to such directory on win2k)
44
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd78b9dc2008-10-07 20:32:10 +000045- Issue #4069: When set.remove(element) is used with a set element, the element
46 is temporarily replaced with an equivalent frozenset. But the eventual
47 KeyError would always report the empty frozenset([]) as the missing key. Now
48 it correctly refers to the initial element.

184-----------------
185
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000186- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
187
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000188- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
189 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
190 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
191 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
192 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
193 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
194 64bit values.
195
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000196- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
197 error.
198
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000199- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
200 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
201 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
202 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
203
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000204- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
205 a unicode argument.
206

Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000210 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000211 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
212
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000213- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000214 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
215 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
216 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
217 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
218 type object.
219
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000220- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
221
222- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
223
224- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
225
226- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
227
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000228- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
229 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
230
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000231- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
232 ``__delslice__``.
233
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000234- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
235 library targets in the Makefile.
236
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000237- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
238 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
239 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).
240
Benjamin Peterson14cb6bc2008-08-26 17:08:40 +0000241C-API

247-------
248
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc24cb3822008-09-11 20:56:13 +0000249- Issue #3640: Pickling a list or a dict uses less local variables, to reduce
250 stack usage in the case of deeply nested objects.

359Core and Builtins
360-----------------
361
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000362- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
363 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
364 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
365 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
366 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
367 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
368 default.
369
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000370- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
371 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
372
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000373- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
374 value again.
375
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000376- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
377 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
378 and introducing s*.
379
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000380- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
381 object was stored in the freelist.
382
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000383- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
384 ValueError consistently across platforms.
385
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000386- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
387 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
388 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
389
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000390- Apply security patches from Apple.
391
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000392- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
393 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
394
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000395- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
396 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
397
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000398- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
399 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
400 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
401
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000402- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
403 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
404 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
405 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
406 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
407 failed have been fixed.
408

410-------
411
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000412- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
413
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000414- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
415 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
416
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000417- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
418 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
419 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
420
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000421- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
422 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
423 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
424 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
425 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
426 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
427
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000428- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
429 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
430
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000431- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
432
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000433- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
434
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000435- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
436
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000437- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
438 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
439
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000440- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
441 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
442
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000443- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
444 in a redirect.
445
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000446- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000447 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000448
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000449- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
450 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
451
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000452- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
453 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
454 regular expression.
455
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000456- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
457 thread-safe.
458
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000459- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
460 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
461 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
462
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000463- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
464
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000465- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
466 menu entries were not deleted.
467
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000468- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
469 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
470
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000471- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
472 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
473
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000474- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
475 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
476 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
477
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000478- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
479 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
480 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
481
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000482- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
483 the reload() built-in has been removed.
484
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000485- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000486 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000487 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,

490 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
491 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000492
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000493- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
494 raised an AttributeError.
495
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000496- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000497 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
498 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000499
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000500- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
501 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.

513 invalid arguments.
514
515- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
516 with None arguments.
517
518- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
519 configuration files.
520
521- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
522
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000523- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
524 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
525 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
526
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000527- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
528 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
529 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.

541
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000542- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
543 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
544 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
545 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

552
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000553Core and Builtins
554-----------------
555
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000556- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
557 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
558 an integer using operator.index().
559
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000560- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
561 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
562
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000563- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
564 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
565
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000566- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
567 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
568 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
569
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000570- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
571 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
572 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
573 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
574 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
575 level.
576
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000577- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
578 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
579 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
580 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
581 all imports from that module to fail.
582
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000583- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
584 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
585 new-style classes.
586
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000587- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
588 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
589 another file in sys.stdout.
590
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000591- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
592 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
593 another thread's dictionary.
594
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000595- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
596 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
597 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
598 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
599 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
600 10, -1).
601
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000602- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
603 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
604 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000605
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000606- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
607 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
608 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000609

614 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
615 error when they failed.
616
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000617- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001116- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1117 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1118 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1119 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001186- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1187 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1188 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1189 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1190 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1191 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1192 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1193 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1194 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1195 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1196 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1197 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1198 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1199 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1200 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1201 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1202 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1203 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1204 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1205 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1206
1207 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1208 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1209 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1210 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1211 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1212 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1213 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1214 access to the underlying socket used.
1215
1216 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1217 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1218 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001219
1220 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001221 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

1223 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
1224
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001225 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
1226 suite to run in parallel without issue.

1493-----------------
1494
Fred Drakea8ee94b2008-03-01 02:45:07 +00001495- Issue #2051: pyc and pyo files are no longer created with permission
Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +00001496 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +00001497
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001498- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1499
1500- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001501
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001502- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001503 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1504
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001505- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1506 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1507 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1508 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1509 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1510 module is:
1511 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1512
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001513- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1514 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1515 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1516 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1517 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1518 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1519
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001520- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1521 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1522 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1523 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1524 PyObject_Format().
1525
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001526- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1527 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1528 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001529
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001530- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001531 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access
1532 a slot on a registered virtual subclass.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001537- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1538 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1539 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001540
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001541- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1542 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1543 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001544
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001545- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1546 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1547
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001548- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256
1549 entries each.
Christian Heimes6075a822008-02-06 12:44:34 +00001550
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001551- Patch #1953: Added ``sys._compact_freelists()`` and the C API

1556 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1557 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001558
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001559- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001571- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1572 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1573 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001574
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001575- Issue #1920: "while 0" statements were completely removed by the
1576 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1577 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1578 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +00001579

3183-----
3184
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003185- Unified naming convention for free lists and their limits. All free
3186 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``
3187 and the upper limit is a macro ``PyName_MAXFREELIST`` inside an
3188 #ifndef block.
Christian Heimes5b970ad2008-02-06 13:33:44 +00003189
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003190- ``PySet_Add()`` can now modify a newly created frozenset. Similarly
3191 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new
3192 frozenset; but it does not steal a reference to the added item.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arccab3d982008-02-03 22:51:43 +00003193
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00003194- Added ``PySet_Check()`` and ``PyFrozenSet_Check()`` to the set API.

3197 and _FormatV from Python 3.0. Made PyLong_AsSsize_t and
3198 PyLong_FromSsize_t public functions.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00003199

3201
3202- Issue #1534: Added ``PyFloat_GetMax()``, ``PyFloat_GetMin()`` and
3203 ``PyFloat_GetInfo()`` to the float API.
3204
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003205- Issue #1521: On 64bit platforms, using PyArgs_ParseTuple with the t#
3206 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
3207 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
3208 incorrect results with huge strings.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00003209
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003210- Issue #1629: Renamed Py_Size, Py_Type and Py_Refcnt to Py_SIZE,

3228- Fix some leftovers from the conversion from int to Py_ssize_t
3229 (relevant to strings and sequences of more than 2**31 items).
3230
3231- Make _PyGILState_NoteThreadState() static, it was not used anywhere
3232 outside of pystate.c and should not be necessary.
3233
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003234- ``PyImport_Import`` and ``PyImport_ImportModule`` now always do

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00003266- Removed the macfs module. It had been deprecated since Python 2.5.
