14
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcdc619012008-11-22 20:01:18 +000015- Issue #3996: On Windows, the PyOS_CheckStack function would cause the
16 interpreter to abort ("Fatal Python error: Could not reset the stack!")
17 instead of throwing a MemoryError.
18
Benjamin Petersonc078f922008-11-21 22:27:24 +000019- Issue #4367: Python would segfault during compiling when the unicodedata
20 module couldn't be imported and \N escapes were present.
21
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc32265652008-11-20 23:34:31 +000022- Issue #4233: Changed semantic of ``_fileio.FileIO``'s ``close()``
23 method on file objects with closefd=False. The file descriptor is still
24 kept open but the file object behaves like a closed file. The ``FileIO``
25 object also got a new readonly attribute ``closefd``.
26
Benjamin Peterson46cc6d12008-11-19 21:49:09 +000027- Issue #4348: Some bytearray methods returned that didn't cause any change to
28 the bytearray, returned the same bytearray instead of a copy.
29
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc7cfe7ea2008-11-18 22:19:37 +000030- Issue #4317: Fixed a crash in the imageop.rgb2rgb8() function.
31

33
Benjamin Peterson6624a9f2008-11-03 15:14:51 +000034- Issue #4048: The parser module now correctly validates relative imports.
35
Benjamin Petersondcee09d2008-10-31 02:16:05 +000036- Issue #4225: ``from __future__ import unicode_literals`` didn't work in an
37 exec statement.
38
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc69a9c5b2008-10-30 21:18:34 +000039- Issue #4176: Fixed a crash when pickling an object which ``__reduce__``
40 method does not return iterators for the 4th and 5th items.
41
Benjamin Petersonbdca9422008-10-26 20:21:13 +000042- Issue #4209: Enabling unicode_literals and the print_function in the same
43 __future__ import didn't work.
44
Benjamin Peterson399b1fe2008-10-25 02:53:28 +000045- Using ``nonlocal`` as a variable name will now raise a Py3k SyntaxWarning
Georg Brandl7fb00ad2008-10-25 07:00:52 +000046 because it is a reserved word in 3.x.
Benjamin Peterson399b1fe2008-10-25 02:53:28 +000047
Hirokazu Yamamoto10a018c2008-10-09 10:00:30 +000048- On windows, os.chdir given unicode was not working if GetCurrentDirectoryW
49 returned a path longer than MAX_PATH. (But It's doubtful this code path is
50 really executed because I cannot move to such directory on win2k)
51
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd78b9dc2008-10-07 20:32:10 +000052- Issue #4069: When set.remove(element) is used with a set element, the element
53 is temporarily replaced with an equivalent frozenset. But the eventual
54 KeyError would always report the empty frozenset([]) as the missing key. Now
55 it correctly refers to the initial element.

193-----------------
194
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000195- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
196
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000197- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
198 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
199 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
200 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
201 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
202 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
203 64bit values.
204
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000205- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
206 error.
207
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000208- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
209 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
210 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
211 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
212
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000213- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
214 a unicode argument.
215
Benjamin Peterson17f03ca2008-09-01 14:18:30 +0000216- Issue #3683: Fix compilation when --without-threads is given.

Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000218- Issue #3668: Fix a memory leak with the "s*" argument parser in
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000219 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000220 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
221
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000222- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000223 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
224 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
225 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
226 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
227 type object.
228
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000229- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
230
231- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
232
233- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
234
235- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
236
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000237- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
238 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
239
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000240- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
241 ``__delslice__``.
242
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000243- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
244 library targets in the Makefile.
245
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000246- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
247 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
248 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).
249
Benjamin Peterson14cb6bc2008-08-26 17:08:40 +0000250C-API

256-------
257
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc24cb3822008-09-11 20:56:13 +0000258- Issue #3640: Pickling a list or a dict uses less local variables, to reduce
259 stack usage in the case of deeply nested objects.

368Core and Builtins
369-----------------
370
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000371- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
372 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
373 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
374 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
375 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
376 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
377 default.
378
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000379- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
380 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
381
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000382- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
383 value again.
384
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000385- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
386 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
387 and introducing s*.
388
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000389- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
390 object was stored in the freelist.
391
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000392- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
393 ValueError consistently across platforms.
394
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000395- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
396 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
397 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
398
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000399- Apply security patches from Apple.
400
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000401- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
402 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
403
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000404- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
405 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
406
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000407- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
408 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
409 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
410
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000411- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
412 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
413 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
414 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
415 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
416 failed have been fixed.
417

419-------
420
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000421- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
422
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000423- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
424 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
425
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000426- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
427 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
428 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
429
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000430- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
431 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
432 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
433 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
434 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
435 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
436
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000437- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
438 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
439
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000440- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
441
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000442- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
443
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000444- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
445
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000446- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
447 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
448
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000449- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
450 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
451
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000452- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
453 in a redirect.
454
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000455- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000456 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000457
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000458- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
459 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
460
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000461- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
462 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
463 regular expression.
464
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000465- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
466 thread-safe.
467
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000468- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
469 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
470 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
471
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000472- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
473
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000474- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
475 menu entries were not deleted.
476
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000477- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
478 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
479
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000480- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
481 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
482
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000483- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
484 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
485 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
486
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000487- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
488 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
489 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
490
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000491- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
492 the reload() built-in has been removed.
493
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000494- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000495 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,

500 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000501
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000502- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
503 raised an AttributeError.
504
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000505- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000506 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened

531
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000532- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
533 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
534 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
535
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000536- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword

Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000562Core and Builtins
563-----------------
564
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000565- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
566 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
567 an integer using operator.index().
568
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000569- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
570 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
571
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000572- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
573 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
574
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000575- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
576 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
577 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
578
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000579- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
580 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
581 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
582 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
583 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
584 level.
585
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000586- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
587 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
588 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
589 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
590 all imports from that module to fail.
591
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000592- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
593 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
594 new-style classes.
595
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000596- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
597 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
598 another file in sys.stdout.
599
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000600- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
601 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
602 another thread's dictionary.
603
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000604- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
605 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
606 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
607 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
608 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
609 10, -1).
610
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000611- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
612 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
613 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000614
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000615- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
616 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
617 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000618

620-------
621
Thomas Heller57adf222008-08-14 19:10:48 +0000622- Issue #3554: ctypes.string_at and ctypes.wstring_at did call Python
623 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001125- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1126 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1127 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1128 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``

1130 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
1131 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001187- Issue #2385: distutils.core.run_script() makes __file__ available,
1188 so the controlled environment will more closely mirror the typical
1189 script environment. This supports setup.py scripts that refer to
1190 data files.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001195- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1196 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1197 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1198 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1199 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1200 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1201 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1202 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1203 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1204 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1205 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1206 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1207 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1208 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1209 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1210 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1211 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1212 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1213 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1214 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1215
1216 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1217 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1218 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1219 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1220 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1221 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1222 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1223 access to the underlying socket used.
1224
1225 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1226 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1227 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001228
1229 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001230 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

1232 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
1233
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001234 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
1235 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001507- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1508
1509- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001510
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001511- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001512 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1513
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001514- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1515 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1516 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1517 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1518 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1519 module is:
1520 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1521
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001522- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1523 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1524 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1525 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1526 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1527 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1528
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001529- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1530 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1531 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1532 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1533 PyObject_Format().
1534
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001535- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1536 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1537 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001538
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001539- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001540 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access
1541 a slot on a registered virtual subclass.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc60d6c7f2008-02-15 21:22:45 +00001542
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001543- Fixed repr() and str() of complex numbers with infinity or nan as
1544 real or imaginary part.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001546- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1547 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1548 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001549
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001550- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1551 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1552 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001553
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001554- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1555 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1556
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001557- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256
1558 entries each.
Christian Heimes6075a822008-02-06 12:44:34 +00001559
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001560- Patch #1953: Added ``sys._compact_freelists()`` and the C API
1561 functions ``PyInt_CompactFreeList`` and ``PyFloat_CompactFreeList``

1565 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1566 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001567
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001568- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001580- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1581 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1582 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001583
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001584- Issue #1920: "while 0" statements were completely removed by the
1585 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1586 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1587 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +00001588

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001695- Issue #1686386: Tuple's tp_repr did not take into account the
1696 possibility of having a self-referential tuple, which is possible

3195 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``
3196 and the upper limit is a macro ``PyName_MAXFREELIST`` inside an
3197 #ifndef block.
Christian Heimes5b970ad2008-02-06 13:33:44 +00003198

3200 to ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new
3201 frozenset; but it does not steal a reference to the added item.

3215 of w# format code incorrectly truncated the length to an int, even
3216 when PY_SSIZE_T_CLEAN is set. The str.decode method used to return
3217 incorrect results with huge strings.
Georg Brandl6caad7d2008-01-26 14:19:22 +00003218
