145 passed a value less than or equal to zero.
146
Brett Cannone9746892008-04-12 23:44:07 +0000147- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the original Python
148 code has been kept as backup). This will allow for using the 'warning's
149 machinery in such places as the parser where use of pure Python code is not
Brett Cannonb457dda2008-05-02 02:25:09 +0000150 possible. Both the ``showarning()`` and ``formatwarning()`` gain an
151 optional 'line' argument which is not called by default for
Brett Cannon8a232cc2008-05-05 05:32:07 +0000152 backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting ``warnings.showwarning()`` to
153 an implementation that lacks support for the ``line`` argument will raise a
154 DeprecationWarning.
Brett Cannone9746892008-04-12 23:44:07 +0000155
Barry Warsawba437742008-04-04 01:34:41 +0000156Library

177
Gregory P. Smithd59fefb2008-04-22 08:11:33 +0000178- The getpass module has been improved on Unix. It now uses /dev/tty
179 by default and uses stderr instead of stdout. A GetPassWarning is
180 issued when input echo cannot be controlled.
Gregory P. Smith41e30182008-04-21 21:31:08 +0000181
Skip Montanarob131f042008-04-18 20:35:46 +0000182- Issue #2014: Allow XML-RPC datetime objects to have dates before

196 extension modules between 32 and 64 bit platforms. See the distutls
197 build documentation for more information.
198
Gregory P. Smithaa63d0d2008-04-06 23:11:17 +0000199- Issue #815646: Individual file objects may now be used from multiple
200 threads at once without fear of crashing the Python interpreter. If
201 file.close() is called while an object is in use by another thread
202 an IOError exception will be raised and the file will not be closed.
203
Thomas Hellerf7906482008-04-04 19:43:25 +0000204- The bundled libffi copy is now in sync with the recently released
205 libffi3.0.5 version, apart from some small changes to
206 Modules/_ctypes/libffi/configure.ac.
207
Fred Drake46c58c12008-04-04 05:41:30 +0000208- Issue #2385: distutils.core.run_script() makes __file__ available, so the
209 controlled environment will more closely mirror the typical script
210 environment. This supports setup.py scripts that refer to data files.
211
Barry Warsawba437742008-04-04 01:34:41 +0000212Tests
213-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000214- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining ports
215 to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an effort to
216 facilitate running multiple instances of the entire regression test suite
217 in parallel without issue. test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such
218 that it will always return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case
219 with the previous implementation, especially if socket options had been
220 set that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
221 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception if it
222 is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the SO_REUSEADDR or
223 SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if available, bind_port()
224 will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on the socket it's been passed.
225 This currently only applies to Windows. This option prevents any other
226 sockets from binding to the host/port we've bound to, thus removing the
227 possibility of the 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it,
228 that occurs when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a
229 host/port that's already been bound by another socket. The optional
230 preferred port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
231 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
232
233 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will pass
234 a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an unused port.
235 The temporary socket object is then closed and deleted, and the port is
236 returned. This method should only be used for obtaining an unused port
237 in order to pass to an external program (i.e. the -accept [port] argument
238 to openssl's s_server mode) or as a parameter to a server-oriented class
239 that doesn't give you direct access to the underlying socket used.
240
241 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used for
242 the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and connect).
243
244 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
245 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
246 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
247 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
248
249 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test suite to
250 run in parallel without issue.

Thomas Hellerdc96a772008-04-04 10:07:55 +0000257- Issue #2544: On HP-UX systems, use 'gcc -shared' for linking when
258 gcc is used as compiler.
259

268 platforms which provide the functions through their libm. The
269 files also contains several helpers and constants for math.
270
Benjamin Petersona692c4d2008-04-27 02:28:02 +0000271- Added a new convenience function, PyErr_WarnPy3k, for issuing Py3k

692 shifts from ints to longs.
693
Brett Cannon0b14f242007-09-30 19:45:10 +0000694- Issue #1686386: Tuple's tp_repr did not take into account the possibility of
695 having a self-referential tuple, which is possible from C code. Nor did
696 object's tp_str consider that a type's tp_str could do something that could
697 lead to an inifinite recursion. Py_ReprEnter() and Py_EnterRecursiveCall(),

712 PyObject_Call() never calling back out to Python code to trigger recursion
713 depth updates/checks. Required the creation of a static RuntimeError
714 instance in case normalizing an exception put the recursion check value past
715 its limit. Fixes crashers infinite_rec_(1|2|4|5).py.

Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +0000762- Bug #1683368: The object.__init__() and object.__new__() methods are
763 now stricter in rejecting excess arguments. The only time when
764 either allows excess arguments is when it is not overridden and the
765 other one is. For backwards compatibility, when both are
766 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +0000767 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature
768 as supported by type.__new__().
Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +0000769
Georg Brandl2b869942007-03-17 16:08:45 +0000770- Patch #1675423: PyComplex_AsCComplex() now tries to convert an object

Amaury Forgeot d'Arccab3d982008-02-03 22:51:43 +00002126 it does not steal a reference to the added item.

2142 results with huge strings.
2143

2145 and Py_REFCNT.
