85 passed a value less than or equal to zero.
86
Brett Cannone9746892008-04-12 23:44:07 +000087- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the original Python
88 code has been kept as backup). This will allow for using the 'warning's
89 machinery in such places as the parser where use of pure Python code is not
Brett Cannonb457dda2008-05-02 02:25:09 +000090 possible. Both the ``showarning()`` and ``formatwarning()`` gain an
91 optional 'line' argument which is not called by default for
Brett Cannon8a232cc2008-05-05 05:32:07 +000092 backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting ``warnings.showwarning()`` to
93 an implementation that lacks support for the ``line`` argument will raise a
94 DeprecationWarning.

117
Gregory P. Smithd59fefb2008-04-22 08:11:33 +0000118- The getpass module has been improved on Unix. It now uses /dev/tty
119 by default and uses stderr instead of stdout. A GetPassWarning is
120 issued when input echo cannot be controlled.
Gregory P. Smith41e30182008-04-21 21:31:08 +0000121

137 build documentation for more information.
138
Gregory P. Smithaa63d0d2008-04-06 23:11:17 +0000139- Issue #815646: Individual file objects may now be used from multiple
140 threads at once without fear of crashing the Python interpreter. If
141 file.close() is called while an object is in use by another thread
142 an IOError exception will be raised and the file will not be closed.
143
Thomas Hellerf7906482008-04-04 19:43:25 +0000144- The bundled libffi copy is now in sync with the recently released
145 libffi3.0.5 version, apart from some small changes to

150 environment. This supports setup.py scripts that refer to data files.
151
Barry Warsawba437742008-04-04 01:34:41 +0000152Tests
153-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000154- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining ports
155 to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an effort to
156 facilitate running multiple instances of the entire regression test suite
157 in parallel without issue. test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such
158 that it will always return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case
159 with the previous implementation, especially if socket options had been
160 set that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
161 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception if it
162 is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the SO_REUSEADDR or
163 SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if available, bind_port()
164 will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on the socket it's been passed.
165 This currently only applies to Windows. This option prevents any other
166 sockets from binding to the host/port we've bound to, thus removing the
167 possibility of the 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it,
168 that occurs when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a
169 host/port that's already been bound by another socket. The optional
170 preferred port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
171 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
172
173 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will pass
174 a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an unused port.
175 The temporary socket object is then closed and deleted, and the port is
176 returned. This method should only be used for obtaining an unused port
177 in order to pass to an external program (i.e. the -accept [port] argument
178 to openssl's s_server mode) or as a parameter to a server-oriented class
179 that doesn't give you direct access to the underlying socket used.
180
181 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used for
182 the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and connect).
183
184 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
185 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
186 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
187 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
188
189 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test suite to
190 run in parallel without issue.

Thomas Hellerdc96a772008-04-04 10:07:55 +0000197- Issue #2544: On HP-UX systems, use 'gcc -shared' for linking when
198 gcc is used as compiler.

208 platforms which provide the functions through their libm. The
209 files also contains several helpers and constants for math.

Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +0000445 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +0000446
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +0000447- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
448
449- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +0000450
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000451- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +0000452 issue 215555 for a discussion.
453
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000454- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
455 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
456 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
457 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
458 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
459 module is:
460 from future_builtins import hex, oct
461
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000462- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
463 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
464 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
465 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
466 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
467 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
468
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000469- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
470 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
471 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
472 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
473 PyObject_Format().
474
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +0000475- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted __del__

Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000486 to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back memory to the
487 OS earlier.
488

490 collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set to a bound method.
491
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +0000492- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
493 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
494
Christian Heimes6075a822008-02-06 12:44:34 +0000495- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256 entries

519 generator.
520
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +0000521- Issue #1920: "while 0" statements were completely removed by the compiler,
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +0000522 even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is supposed to be run when
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +0000523 the condition is false. Now the compiler correctly emits bytecode for the

628
Brett Cannon0b14f242007-09-30 19:45:10 +0000629- Issue #1686386: Tuple's tp_repr did not take into account the possibility of
630 having a self-referential tuple, which is possible from C code. Nor did
631 object's tp_str consider that a type's tp_str could do something that could
632 lead to an inifinite recursion. Py_ReprEnter() and Py_EnterRecursiveCall(),
633 respectively, fixed the issues.

698 now stricter in rejecting excess arguments. The only time when
699 either allows excess arguments is when it is not overridden and the
700 other one is. For backwards compatibility, when both are
701 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +0000702 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature
703 as supported by type.__new__().
Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +0000704
Georg Brandl2b869942007-03-17 16:08:45 +0000705- Patch #1675423: PyComplex_AsCComplex() now tries to convert an object

Amaury Forgeot d'Arccab3d982008-02-03 22:51:43 +00002059- ``PySet_Add()`` can now modify a newly created frozenset. Similarly to
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00002060 ``PyTuple_SetItem``, it can be used to populate a brand new frozenset; but
Amaury Forgeot d'Arccab3d982008-02-03 22:51:43 +00002061 it does not steal a reference to the added item.

2077 results with huge strings.
2078
