13-----------------
14
Jeffrey Yasskin69614982008-12-11 05:21:18 +000015- Issue #4597: Fixed several opcodes that weren't always propagating
16 exceptions.
17
18- Issue #4589: Fixed exception handling when the __exit__ function of a
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc79c9f762008-12-10 23:56:33 +000019 context manager returns a value that cannot be converted to a bool.
20
Georg Brandld2094602008-12-05 08:51:30 +000021- Issue #4233: Changed semantic of ``_fileio.FileIO``'s ``close()``
22 method on file objects with closefd=False. The file descriptor is still
23 kept open but the file object behaves like a closed file. The ``FileIO``
24 object also got a new readonly attribute ``closefd``.
25
Georg Brandlfa71a902008-12-05 09:08:28 +000026- Issue #3689: The list reversed iterator now supports __length_hint__
27 instead of __len__. Behavior now matches other reversed iterators.
28
Antoine Pitrou599db7f2008-12-07 00:07:51 +000029- Issue #4509: Various issues surrounding resize of bytearray objects to
30 which there are buffer exports.

37 loader). Original patch by Alexander Belopolsky.
38
39- Issue #4201: pdb can now access and display source code loaded via
40 zipimport (or any other conformant PEP 302 loader). Original patch by
41 Alexander Belopolsky.
42
43- Issue #4197: doctests in modules loaded via zipimport (or any other PEP
44 302 conformant loader) will now work correctly in most cases (they
45 are still subject to the constraints that exist for all code running
46 from inside a module loaded via a PEP 302 loader and attempting to
47 perform IO operations based on __file__). Original patch by
48 Alexander Belopolsky.
49
50- Issues #4082 and #4512: Add runpy support to zipimport in a manner that
51 allows backporting to maintenance branches. Original patch by

69
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc74b458c2008-11-22 20:06:51 +000070- Issue #3996: On Windows, the PyOS_CheckStack function would cause the

72 instead of throwing a MemoryError.
73
Benjamin Peterson71ce9e72008-11-21 22:52:21 +000074- Issue #4367: Python would segfault during compiling when the unicodedata
75 module couldn't be imported and \N escapes were present.

Benjamin Peterson866eba92008-11-19 22:05:53 +000077- Issue #4348: Some bytearray methods returned that didn't cause any change to
78 the bytearray, returned the same bytearray instead of a copy.

97 really executed because I cannot move to such directory on win2k)
98
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc00c94ed2008-10-07 20:40:09 +000099- Issue #4069: When set.remove(element) is used with a set element, the element
100 is temporarily replaced with an equivalent frozenset. But the eventual
101 KeyError would always report the empty frozenset([]) as the missing key. Now
102 it correctly refers to the initial element.
103
Christian Heimes4d8a6f42008-10-02 19:49:47 +0000104- Fixed C99 style comments in several files. Python is now C89 compatible

271
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000272- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
273
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000274- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
275 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
276 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
277 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
278 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
279 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
280 64bit values.
281
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000282- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
283 error.
284
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000285- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
286 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
287 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
288 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
289
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000290- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with

Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000296 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000297 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
298
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000299- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000300 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
301 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
302 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
303 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
304 type object.
305
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000306- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
307
308- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
309
310- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
311
312- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
313
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000314- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
315 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
316
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000317- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
318 ``__delslice__``.
319
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000320- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared

325 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).

442
Barry Warsaw07a4a382008-08-21 01:15:08 +0000443*Release date: 20-Aug-2008*
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000444
445Core and Builtins
446-----------------
447
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000448- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
449 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
450 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
451 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
452 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
453 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
454 default.
455
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000456- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
457 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
458
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000459- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
460 value again.
461
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000462- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
463 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
464 and introducing s*.
465
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000466- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
467 object was stored in the freelist.
468
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000469- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
470 ValueError consistently across platforms.
471
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000472- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
473 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
474 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
475
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000476- Apply security patches from Apple.
477
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000478- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
479 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
480
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000481- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
482 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
483
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000484- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
485 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
486 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
487
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000488- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
489 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
490 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
491 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
492 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
493 failed have been fixed.
494
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000495Library
496-------
497
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000498- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
499
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000500- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
501 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
502
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000503- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
504 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
505 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
506
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000507- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
508 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
509 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
510 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
511 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
512 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
513
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000514- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
515 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
516
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000517- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
518
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000519- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
520
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000521- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
522
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000523- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
524 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
525
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000526- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
527 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
528
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000529- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
530 in a redirect.
531
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000532- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000533 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000534
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000535- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
536 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
537
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000538- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
539 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
540 regular expression.
541
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000542- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
543 thread-safe.
544
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000545- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
546 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
547 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
548
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000549- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
550
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000551- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
552 menu entries were not deleted.
553
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000554- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
555 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
556
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000557- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
558 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
559
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000560- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
561 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
562 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
563
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000564- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
565 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
566 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
567
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000568- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
569 the reload() built-in has been removed.
570
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000571- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000572 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,

Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000578
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000579- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
580 raised an AttributeError.
581
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000582- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000583 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
584 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000585
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000586- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification

608
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000609- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
610 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
611 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
612
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000613- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword

638
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000639Core and Builtins
640-----------------
641
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000642- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
643 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
644 an integer using operator.index().
645
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000646- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
647 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
648
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000649- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
650 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
651
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000652- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
653 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
654 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
655
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000656- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
657 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
658 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
659 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
660 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
661 level.
662
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000663- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
664 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
665 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
666 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
667 all imports from that module to fail.
668
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000669- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
670 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
671 new-style classes.
672
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000673- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
674 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
675 another file in sys.stdout.
676
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000677- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
678 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
679 another thread's dictionary.
680
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000681- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
682 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
683 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
684 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
685 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
686 10, -1).
687
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000688- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
689 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
690 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000691
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000692- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
693 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
694 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000695
Brett Cannon8bb8fa52008-07-02 01:57:08 +0000696Library
697-------
698
Thomas Heller57adf222008-08-14 19:10:48 +0000699- Issue #3554: ctypes.string_at and ctypes.wstring_at did call Python
700 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
701 error when they failed.
702
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000703- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.

710
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000711- Issue #3125: Remove copy_reg in multiprocessing and replace it with
712 ForkingPickler.register() to resolve conflict with ctypes.
713
Vinay Sajip51e65192008-07-18 09:01:10 +0000714- Issue #3090: Fixed ARCHFLAGS parsing on OS/X

Thomas Heller880f5292008-07-15 19:39:38 +0000716- Issue #3313: Fixed a crash when a failed dlopen() call does not set

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000728- Issue #839496: SimpleHTTPServer used to open text files in text mode. This is
729 both unnecessary (HTTP allows text content to be sent in several forms) and
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000730 wrong because the actual transmitted size could differ from the
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000731 content-length. The problem had been corrected in the 2.4 branch, but never

Nick Coghlanc060b0e2008-07-02 13:09:19 +0000747- Issue #3190: Pydoc now hides the automatic module attribute __package__ (the

749
Brett Cannon8bb8fa52008-07-02 01:57:08 +0000750- Issue #2885 (partial): The urllib.urlopen() function has been deprecated for

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001202- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1203 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1204 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1205 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
1206 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
1207 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
1208 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support
1209 for the ``line`` argument will raise a DeprecationWarning.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001272- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1273 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1274 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1275 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1276 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1277 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1278 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1279 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1280 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1281 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1282 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1283 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1284 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1285 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1286 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1287 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1288 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1289 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1290 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1291 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1292
1293 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1294 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1295 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1296 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1297 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1298 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1299 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1300 access to the underlying socket used.
1301
1302 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1303 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1304 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001305
1306 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001307 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

1309 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
1310
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001311 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
1312 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001588- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001589 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1590
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001591- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1592 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1593 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1594 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1595 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1596 module is:
1597 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1598
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001599- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1600 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1601 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1602 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1603 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1604 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1605
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001606- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1607 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1608 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1609 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1610 PyObject_Format().
1611
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001612- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1613 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1614 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001615
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001616- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001617 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access

1624 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1625 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001626
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001627- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1628 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1629 to a bound method.

1642 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1643 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001644
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001645- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001657- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1658 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1659 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001660

1662 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1663 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1664 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.

Gregory P. Smithec10a4a2007-11-05 02:32:26 +00002930- pybsddb.sf.net Bug #477182: Load the database flags at database open
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00002931 time so that opening a database previously created with the DB_DUP
2932 or DB_DUPSORT flag set will keep the proper behavior on subsequent
2933 opens. Specifically: dictionary assignment to a DB object will
2934 replace all values for a given key when the database allows
2935 duplicate values. DB users should use DB.put(k, v) when they want
2936 to store duplicates; not DB[k] = v.
