14
Jeffrey Yasskin69614982008-12-11 05:21:18 +000015- Issue #4597: Fixed several opcodes that weren't always propagating
16 exceptions.
17
18- Issue #4589: Fixed exception handling when the __exit__ function of a
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc79c9f762008-12-10 23:56:33 +000019 context manager returns a value that cannot be converted to a bool.
20
Georg Brandld2094602008-12-05 08:51:30 +000021- Issue #4233: Changed semantic of ``_fileio.FileIO``'s ``close()``
22 method on file objects with closefd=False. The file descriptor is still
23 kept open but the file object behaves like a closed file. The ``FileIO``
24 object also got a new readonly attribute ``closefd``.
25
Georg Brandlfa71a902008-12-05 09:08:28 +000026- Issue #3689: The list reversed iterator now supports __length_hint__
27 instead of __len__. Behavior now matches other reversed iterators.
28
Antoine Pitrou599db7f2008-12-07 00:07:51 +000029- Issue #4509: Various issues surrounding resize of bytearray objects to

37 and gets split on a chunk boundary.
38
Nick Coghlan30327242008-12-14 11:30:16 +000039- Issue #4223: inspect.getsource() will now correctly display source code
40 for packages loaded via zipimport (or any other conformant PEP 302
41 loader). Original patch by Alexander Belopolsky.
42
43- Issue #4201: pdb can now access and display source code loaded via
44 zipimport (or any other conformant PEP 302 loader). Original patch by
45 Alexander Belopolsky.
46
47- Issue #4197: doctests in modules loaded via zipimport (or any other PEP
48 302 conformant loader) will now work correctly in most cases (they
49 are still subject to the constraints that exist for all code running
50 from inside a module loaded via a PEP 302 loader and attempting to
51 perform IO operations based on __file__). Original patch by
52 Alexander Belopolsky.
53
54- Issues #4082 and #4512: Add runpy support to zipimport in a manner that
55 allows backporting to maintenance branches. Original patch by
56 Alexander Belopolsky.

73
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc74b458c2008-11-22 20:06:51 +000074- Issue #3996: On Windows, the PyOS_CheckStack function would cause the
75 interpreter to abort ("Fatal Python error: Could not reset the stack!")
76 instead of throwing a MemoryError.
77
Benjamin Peterson71ce9e72008-11-21 22:52:21 +000078- Issue #4367: Python would segfault during compiling when the unicodedata
79 module couldn't be imported and \N escapes were present.
80
Benjamin Peterson866eba92008-11-19 22:05:53 +000081- Issue #4348: Some bytearray methods returned that didn't cause any change to
82 the bytearray, returned the same bytearray instead of a copy.
83

98
Hirokazu Yamamoto2c66b7c2008-10-09 18:06:58 +000099- On windows, os.chdir given unicode was not working if GetCurrentDirectoryW
100 returned a path longer than MAX_PATH. (But It's doubtful this code path is
101 really executed because I cannot move to such directory on win2k)
102
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc00c94ed2008-10-07 20:40:09 +0000103- Issue #4069: When set.remove(element) is used with a set element, the element
104 is temporarily replaced with an equivalent frozenset. But the eventual
105 KeyError would always report the empty frozenset([]) as the missing key. Now
106 it correctly refers to the initial element.
107
Christian Heimes4d8a6f42008-10-02 19:49:47 +0000108- Fixed C99 style comments in several files. Python is now C89 compatible

275
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000276- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
277
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000278- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
279 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
280 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
281 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
282 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
283 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
284 64bit values.
285
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000286- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
287 error.
288
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000289- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
290 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
291 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
292 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
293
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000294- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
295 a unicode argument.
296
Benjamin Peterson17f03ca2008-09-01 14:18:30 +0000297- Issue #3683: Fix compilation when --without-threads is given.
298
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000299- Issue #3668: Fix a memory leak with the "s*" argument parser in
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000300 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000301 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
302
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000303- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000304 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
305 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
306 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
307 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
308 type object.
309
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000310- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
311
312- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
313
314- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
315
316- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
317
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000318- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
319 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
320
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000321- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
322 ``__delslice__``.
323
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000324- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
325 library targets in the Makefile.
326
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000327- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
328 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues

Barry Warsaw07a4a382008-08-21 01:15:08 +0000447*Release date: 20-Aug-2008*
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000448
449Core and Builtins
450-----------------
451
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000452- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
453 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
454 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
455 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
456 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
457 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
458 default.
459
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000460- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
461 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
462
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000463- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
464 value again.
465
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000466- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
467 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
468 and introducing s*.
469
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000470- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
471 object was stored in the freelist.
472
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000473- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
474 ValueError consistently across platforms.
475
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000476- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
477 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
478 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
479
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000480- Apply security patches from Apple.
481
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000482- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
483 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
484
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000485- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
486 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
487
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000488- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
489 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
490 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
491
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000492- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
493 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
494 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
495 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
496 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
497 failed have been fixed.
498
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000499Library
500-------
501
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000502- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
503
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000504- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
505 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
506
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000507- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
508 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
509 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
510
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000511- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
512 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
513 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
514 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
515 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
516 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
517
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000518- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
519 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
520
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000521- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
522
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000523- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
524
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000525- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
526
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000527- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
528 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
529
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000530- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
531 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
532
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000533- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
534 in a redirect.
535
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000536- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000537 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000538
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000539- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
540 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
541
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000542- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
543 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
544 regular expression.
545
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000546- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
547 thread-safe.
548
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000549- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
550 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
551 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
552
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000553- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
554
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000555- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
556 menu entries were not deleted.
557
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000558- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
559 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
560
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000561- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
562 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
563
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000564- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
565 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
566 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
567
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000568- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
569 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
570 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
571
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000572- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
573 the reload() built-in has been removed.
574

Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000583- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
584 raised an AttributeError.
585
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000586- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000587 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
588 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000589

633 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
634 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
635 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000643Core and Builtins
644-----------------
645
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000646- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
647 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
648 an integer using operator.index().
649
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000650- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
651 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
652
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000653- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
654 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
655
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000656- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
657 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
658 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
659
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000660- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
661 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
662 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
663 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
664 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
665 level.
666
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000667- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
668 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
669 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
670 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
671 all imports from that module to fail.
672
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000673- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
674 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
675 new-style classes.
676
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000677- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
678 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
679 another file in sys.stdout.
680
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000681- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
682 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
683 another thread's dictionary.
684
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000685- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
686 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
687 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
688 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
689 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
690 10, -1).
691
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000692- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
693 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
694 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000695
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000696- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
697 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
698 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000699

704 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
705 error when they failed.
706
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000707- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.

Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000715- Issue #3125: Remove copy_reg in multiprocessing and replace it with
716 ForkingPickler.register() to resolve conflict with ctypes.
717
Vinay Sajip51e65192008-07-18 09:01:10 +0000718- Issue #3090: Fixed ARCHFLAGS parsing on OS/X

Thomas Heller880f5292008-07-15 19:39:38 +0000720- Issue #3313: Fixed a crash when a failed dlopen() call does not set

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000732- Issue #839496: SimpleHTTPServer used to open text files in text mode. This is
733 both unnecessary (HTTP allows text content to be sent in several forms) and
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000734 wrong because the actual transmitted size could differ from the
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000735 content-length. The problem had been corrected in the 2.4 branch, but never
736 merged into trunk.

Nick Coghlanc060b0e2008-07-02 13:09:19 +0000751- Issue #3190: Pydoc now hides the automatic module attribute __package__ (the
752 handling is now the same as that of other special attributes like __name__).
753
Brett Cannon8bb8fa52008-07-02 01:57:08 +0000754- Issue #2885 (partial): The urllib.urlopen() function has been deprecated for

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001206- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1207 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1208 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1209 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
1210 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
1211 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
1212 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support
1213 for the ``line`` argument will raise a DeprecationWarning.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001276- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1277 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1278 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1279 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1280 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1281 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1282 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1283 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1284 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1285 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1286 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1287 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1288 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1289 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1290 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1291 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1292 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1293 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1294 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1295 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1296
1297 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1298 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1299 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1300 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1301 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1302 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1303 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1304 access to the underlying socket used.
1305
1306 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1307 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1308 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001309
1310 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001311 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

1314

1316 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001591
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001592- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001593 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1594
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001595- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1596 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1597 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1598 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1599 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1600 module is:
1601 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1602
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001603- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1604 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1605 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1606 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1607 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1608 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1609
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001610- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1611 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1612 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1613 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1614 PyObject_Format().
1615
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001616- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1617 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1618 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001619
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001620- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

1628 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1629 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001630
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001631- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1632 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1633 to a bound method.

1646 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1647 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001648
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001649- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001661- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1662 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1663 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001664
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001665- Issue #1920: "while 0" statements were completely removed by the
1666 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1667 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1668 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
