Benjamin Peterson866eba92008-11-19 22:05:53 +000039- Issue #4348: Some bytearray methods returned that didn't cause any change to
40 the bytearray, returned the same bytearray instead of a copy.

56
Hirokazu Yamamoto2c66b7c2008-10-09 18:06:58 +000057- On windows, os.chdir given unicode was not working if GetCurrentDirectoryW
58 returned a path longer than MAX_PATH. (But It's doubtful this code path is
59 really executed because I cannot move to such directory on win2k)
60

217
Martin v. Löwis9fa5a282008-09-11 06:53:30 +0000218- Issue #3642: Suppress warning in obmalloc when size_t is larger than uint.
219
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc05e34492008-09-10 22:04:45 +0000220- Issue #3743: In a few places, PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T was incorrectly used with
221 PyString_FromFormat or PyErr_Format to display size_t values. The macro
222 PY_FORMAT_SIZE_T is designed to select the correct format for the OS
223 ``printf`` function, whereas PyString_FromFormat has an independent
224 implementation and uses "%zd" on all platforms for size_t values.
225 This makes a difference on win64, where ``printf`` needs "%Id" to display
226 64bit values.
227
Benjamin Peterson97179b02008-09-09 20:55:01 +0000228- Issue #3634: _weakref.ref(Exception).__init__() gave invalid return value on
229 error.
230
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcd3ffb892008-09-09 07:24:30 +0000231- Issue #3777: long() applied to a float object now always return a long
232 object; previously an int would be returned for small values. the __long__
233 method is allowed to return either an int or a long, but the behaviour of
234 float objects should not change to respect backward compatibility.
235
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc3571fbf2008-09-01 19:52:00 +0000236- Issue #3751: str.rpartition would perform a left-partition when called with
237 a unicode argument.
238
Benjamin Peterson17f03ca2008-09-01 14:18:30 +0000239- Issue #3683: Fix compilation when --without-threads is given.

Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000242 PyArg_ParseTuple and friends, which occurred when the argument for "s*"
Antoine Pitroud4ae97b2008-08-29 18:39:48 +0000243 was correctly parsed but parsing of subsequent arguments failed.
244
Vinay Sajip35e3b032008-09-01 14:33:59 +0000245- Issue #2534: speed up isinstance() and issubclass() by 50-70%, so as to
Antoine Pitrou0668c622008-08-26 22:42:08 +0000246 match Python 2.5 speed despite the __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__
247 mechanism. In the process, fix a bug where isinstance() and issubclass(),
248 when given a tuple of classes as second argument, were looking up
249 __instancecheck__ / __subclasscheck__ on the tuple rather than on each
250 type object.
251
Neal Norwitz18aa3882008-08-24 05:04:52 +0000252- Fix crashes on memory allocation failure found with failmalloc.
253
254- Fix memory leaks found with valgrind and update suppressions file.
255
256- Fix compiler warnings in opt mode which would lead to invalid memory reads.
257
258- Fix problem using wrong name in decimal module reported by pychecker.
259
Christian Heimes7d4c3172008-08-22 19:47:25 +0000260- Silenced another compiler warning about a used but not defined
261 function 'stringlib_contains_obj'.
262
Benjamin Peterson712ee922008-08-24 18:10:20 +0000263- Added warnings on the use of ``__getslice__``, ``__setslice__``, or
264 ``__delslice__``.
265
Gregory P. Smith2bb25cc2008-09-02 05:29:51 +0000266- Issue #3678: Correctly pass LDFLAGS and LDLAST to the linker on shared
267 library targets in the Makefile.
268
Gregory P. Smith980b99b2008-09-07 05:15:18 +0000269- Issue #1204: The configure script now tests for additional libraries
270 that may be required when linking against readline. This fixes issues
271 with x86_64 builds on some platforms (a few Linux flavors and OpenBSD).

322 for catch_warnings() also led to an improvement in the raising of a
323 DeprecationWarning related to warnings.warn_explicit().
324
Benjamin Peterson973e6c22008-09-01 23:12:58 +0000325- The deprecation warnings for the old camelCase threading API were removed.

391Core and Builtins
392-----------------
393
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +0000394- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
395 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
396 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
397 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
398 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
399 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
400 default.
401
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +0000402- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
403 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
404
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +0000405- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
406 value again.
407
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +0000408- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
409 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
410 and introducing s*.
411
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +0000412- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
413 object was stored in the freelist.
414
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +0000415- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
416 ValueError consistently across platforms.
417
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +0000418- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
419 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
420 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
421
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +0000422- Apply security patches from Apple.
423
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +0000424- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
425 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
426
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +0000427- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
428 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
429
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +0000430- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
431 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
432 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
433
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +0000434- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
435 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
436 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
437 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
438 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
439 failed have been fixed.
440
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000441Library
442-------
443
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +0000444- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
445
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +0000446- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
447 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
448
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +0000449- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
450 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
451 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
452
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +0000453- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
454 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
455 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
456 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
457 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
458 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
459
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +0000460- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
461 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
462
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +0000463- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
464
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000465- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
466
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000467- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
468
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000469- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
470 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
471
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000472- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
473 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
474
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000475- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
476 in a redirect.
477
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000478- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000479 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000480
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000481- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
482 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
483
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000484- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
485 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
486 regular expression.
487
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000488- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
489 thread-safe.
490
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000491- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
492 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
493 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
494
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000495- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
496
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000497- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
498 menu entries were not deleted.
499
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000500- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
501 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
502
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000503- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
504 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
505
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000506- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
507 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
508 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
509
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000510- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
511 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
512 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
513
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000514- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
515 the reload() built-in has been removed.
516
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000517- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000518 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000519 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
520 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
521 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
522 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
523 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000524
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000525- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
526 raised an AttributeError.
527
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000528- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000529 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
530 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000531
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000532- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
533 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.

545 invalid arguments.
546
547- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
548 with None arguments.
549
550- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
551 configuration files.
552
553- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
554
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000555- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
556 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
557 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
558
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000559- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
560 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
561 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.

572 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
573
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000574- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
575 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
576 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
577 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

584
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000585Core and Builtins
586-----------------
587
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000588- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
589 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
590 an integer using operator.index().
591
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000592- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
593 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
594
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000595- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
596 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
597
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000598- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
599 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
600 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
601
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000602- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
603 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
604 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
605 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
606 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
607 level.
608
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000609- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
610 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
611 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
612 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
613 all imports from that module to fail.
614
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000615- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
616 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
617 new-style classes.
618
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000619- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
620 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
621 another file in sys.stdout.
622
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000623- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
624 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
625 another thread's dictionary.
626
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000627- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
628 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
629 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
630 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
631 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
632 10, -1).

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001148- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
1149 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
1150 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
1151 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
1152 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
1153 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
1154 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support
1155 for the ``line`` argument will raise a DeprecationWarning.

1191 now implemented in C for better performance.
1192
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001193- Issue #2408: The ``_types`` module, which was used as in
1194 implementation detail of the public ``types`` module, has been
1195 removed and replaced by pure python code.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001197- Issue #2513: distutils on Windows is now capable of cross-compiling
Mark Hammond495cf992008-04-07 01:53:39 +00001198 extension modules between 32 and 64 bit platforms. See the distutls
1199 build documentation for more information.
1200
Gregory P. Smithaa63d0d2008-04-06 23:11:17 +00001201- Issue #815646: Individual file objects may now be used from multiple
1202 threads at once without fear of crashing the Python interpreter. If
1203 file.close() is called while an object is in use by another thread
1204 an IOError exception will be raised and the file will not be closed.
1205
Thomas Hellerf7906482008-04-04 19:43:25 +00001206- The bundled libffi copy is now in sync with the recently released
1207 libffi3.0.5 version, apart from some small changes to
1208 Modules/_ctypes/libffi/configure.ac.
1209
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001210- Issue #2385: distutils.core.run_script() makes __file__ available,
1211 so the controlled environment will more closely mirror the typical
1212 script environment. This supports setup.py scripts that refer to
1213 data files.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001218- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
1219 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
1220 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
1221 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
1222 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
1223 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
1224 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
1225 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
1226 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
1227 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
1228 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
1229 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
1230 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
1231 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
1232 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
1233 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
1234 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
1235 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
1236 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
1237 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
1238
1239 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
1240 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
1241 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
1242 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
1243 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
1244 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
1245 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
1246 access to the underlying socket used.
1247
1248 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
1249 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
1250 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001251
1252 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001253 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +00001254 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
1255 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
1256
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001257 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
1258 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc9a0d3462008-03-23 09:55:29 +00001312- Issue #1477: With narrow Unicode builds, the unicode escape sequence
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001313 \Uxxxxxxxx did not accept values outside the Basic Multilingual
1314 Plane. This affected raw unicode literals and the
1315 'raw-unicode-escape' codec. Now UTF-16 surrogates are generated in
1316 this case, like normal unicode literals and the 'unicode-escape'
1317 codec.

Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001530- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1531
1532- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001533
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001534- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001535 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1536
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001537- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1538 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1539 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1540 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1541 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1542 module is:
1543 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1544
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001545- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1546 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1547 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1548 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1549 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1550 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1551
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001552- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1553 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1554 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1555 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1556 PyObject_Format().
1557
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001558- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1559 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1560 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001561
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001562- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also

1570 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1571 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001572
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001573- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1574 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1575 to a bound method.

1589 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001590

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001603- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1604 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1605 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001606

1608 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1609 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1610 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001714- The enumerate() builtin function is no longer bounded to sequences
1715 smaller than LONG_MAX. Formerly, it raised an OverflowError. Now,
1716 automatically shifts from ints to longs.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001718- Issue #1686386: Tuple's tp_repr did not take into account the
1719 possibility of having a self-referential tuple, which is possible
1720 from C code. Nor did object's tp_str consider that a type's tp_str
1721 could do something that could lead to an inifinite recursion.
1722 Py_ReprEnter() and Py_EnterRecursiveCall(), respectively, fixed the
1723 issues.

1726 'print' statement to write to a file since the GIL was not released
1727 as needed. Now PyObject_Print() does the right thing along with
1728 various tp_print implementations of the built-in types and those in

Brett Cannon1e534b52007-09-07 04:18:30 +00001738- Issue #1202533: Fix infinite recursion calls triggered by calls to
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001739 PyObject_Call() never calling back out to Python code to trigger
1740 recursion depth updates/checks. Required the creation of a static

Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +00001791- Bug #1683368: The object.__init__() and object.__new__() methods are
1792 now stricter in rejecting excess arguments. The only time when
1793 either allows excess arguments is when it is not overridden and the
1794 other one is. For backwards compatibility, when both are
1795 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +00001796 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature
1797 as supported by type.__new__().
Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +00001798
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001799- Patch #1675423: PyComplex_AsCComplex() now tries to convert an
1800 object to complex using its __complex__() method before falling back
1801 to the __float__() method. Therefore, the functions in the cmath
1802 module now can operate on objects that define a __complex__()

3218 lists in Object/ are named ``free_list``, the counter ``numfree``
