27Core and Builtins
28-----------------
29
Guido van Rossumf8402962008-08-20 15:01:50 +000030- Issue #1878: Remove Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG from
31 Py_TPFLAGS_DEFAULT when not building the core. This means 3rd party
32 extensions do not automatically benefit from the class attribute
33 cache; they will have to explicitly add Py_TPFLAGS_HAVE_VERSION_TAG
34 to their tp_flags field if they care. This is a backwards
35 compatibility feature; in 3.0, all types will use the cache by
36 default.
37
Benjamin Petersonf647dc12008-08-20 01:27:30 +000038- Keyword arguments can now follow starred arguments. (``f(a, *args,
39 keyword=23)`` is now valid syntax.)
40
Thomas Heller0ad5ae02008-08-19 19:25:04 +000041- ctypes function pointers that are COM methods have a boolean True
42 value again.
43
Martin v. Löwisf91d46a2008-08-12 14:49:50 +000044- Issue #3139: Make buffer-interface thread-safe wrt. PyArg_ParseTuple,
45 by denying s# to parse objects that have a releasebuffer procedure,
46 and introducing s*.
47
Georg Brandl1e13ea92008-08-11 09:07:59 +000048- Issue #3537: Fix an assertion failure when an empty but presized dict
49 object was stored in the freelist.
50
Mark Dickinsonb6467572008-08-04 21:30:09 +000051- Issue #1481296: Make long(float('nan')) and int(float('nan')) raise
52 ValueError consistently across platforms.
53
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc39fd6722008-07-31 21:28:03 +000054- Issue #3479: On platforms where sizeof(int) is smaller than sizeof(long)
55 (64bit Unix, for example), unichr() would truncate its argument and return
56 u'\x00' for unichr(2**32). Now it properly raises an OverflowError.
57
Neal Norwitze7d8be82008-07-31 17:17:14 +000058- Apply security patches from Apple.
59
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc246daed2008-07-31 00:42:16 +000060- Issue #2542: Now that issubclass() may call arbitrary code, ensure that
61 PyErr_ExceptionMatches returns 0 when an exception occurs there.
62
Antoine Pitrou92f82162008-07-25 22:22:08 +000063- Issue #1819: function calls with several named parameters are now on
64 average 35% faster (as measured by pybench).
65
Amaury Forgeot d'Arce4921fe2008-07-21 22:00:38 +000066- Issue #2378: An unexpected UnboundLocalError or NameError could appear when
67 the python debugger steps into a class statement: the free variables (local
68 variables defined in an outer scope) would be deleted from the outer scope.
69
Gregory P. Smith0470bab2008-07-22 04:46:32 +000070- Issue #2620: Overflow checking when allocating or reallocating memory
71 was not always being done properly in some python types and extension
72 modules. PyMem_MALLOC, PyMem_REALLOC, PyMem_NEW and PyMem_RESIZE have
73 all been updated to perform better checks and places in the code that
74 would previously leak memory on the error path when such an allocation
75 failed have been fixed.
76
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +000077Library
78-------
79
Hirokazu Yamamoto838c79f2008-08-20 13:14:07 +000080- Issue #3612: Added some missing basic types in ctypes.wintypes.
81
Benjamin Petersone977ad42008-08-20 01:42:01 +000082- The methods ``is_in_tuple()``, ``is_vararg()``, and ``is_keywordarg()`` of
83 symtable.Symbol have been deprecated for removal in 3.0 and the next release.
84
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc351ffb82008-08-18 19:23:47 +000085- Issue #2234: distutils failed for some versions of the cygwin compiler. The
86 version reported by these tools does not necessarily follow the python
87 version numbering scheme, so the module is less strict when parsing it.
88
Nick Coghlanf70385a2008-08-18 12:42:46 +000089- Issue #2235: Added Py3k warnings for types which will become unhashable
90 under the stricter __hash__ inheritance rules in 3.0. Several types
91 which did not meet the rules for hash invariants and were already
92 unhashable in 3.0 have now been explicitly flagged as unhashable in
93 2.6 as well (collections.Mapping, collections.Set, unittest.TestSuite,
94 xml.dom.minidom.NamedNodeMap, numbers.Number, UserList.UserList)
95
Brett Cannon88f801d2008-08-18 00:46:22 +000096- Update __all__ for cookielib, csv, os, urllib2, and weakref to include things
97 imported into the module but exposed as part of the module's API.
98
Brett Cannon7b96f072008-08-18 00:41:11 +000099- Remove an unneeded import of abc.ABCMeta from 'inspect'.
100
Brett Cannon46225e72008-08-18 00:36:52 +0000101- Remove unneeded imports of 'sys' and 'warnings' from 'io'.
102
Brett Cannon25c9d6a2008-08-17 22:10:11 +0000103- Remove unneeded imports of 'warnings' from shelve, filecmp, and dummy_thread.
104
Hirokazu Yamamoto41a81eb2008-08-17 13:10:46 +0000105- Issue #3575: Incremental decoder's decode function now takes bytearray
106 by using 's*' instead of 't#'.
107
Hirokazu Yamamoto7f30a682008-08-17 09:46:56 +0000108- Issue #2222: Fixed reference leak when occured os.rename()
109 fails unicode conversion on 2nd parameter. (windows only)
110
Facundo Batista94f243a2008-08-17 03:38:39 +0000111- Issue 2464. urllib2 now supports a malformation in the URL received
112 in a redirect.
113
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000114- Silence the DeprecationWarning raised when importing mimetools in
Brett Cannon721b1452008-08-16 22:00:27 +0000115 BaseHTTPServer, cgi (and rfc822), httplib.
Brett Cannonabe423e2008-08-16 21:47:07 +0000116
Facundo Batistaeb90b782008-08-16 14:44:07 +0000117- Issue #2776: fixed small issue when handling an URL with double slash
118 after a 302 response in the case of not going through a proxy.
119
Antoine Pitroub90a8be2008-08-15 21:03:21 +0000120- Issue #2676: in the email package, content-type parsing was hanging on
121 pathological input because of quadratic or exponential behaviour of a
122 regular expression.
123
Antoine Pitrou11ec65d2008-08-14 21:04:30 +0000124- Issue #3476: binary buffered reading through the new "io" library is now
125 thread-safe.
126
Brett Cannonbf3157b2008-08-14 05:00:03 +0000127- Silence the DeprecationWarning of rfc822 when it is imported by mimetools
128 since mimetools itself is deprecated. Because modules are cached, all
129 subsequent imports of rfc822 will not raise a visible DeprecationWarning.
130
Antoine Pitrou9fcd4b32008-08-11 17:21:36 +0000131- Issue #3134: shutil referenced undefined WindowsError symbol.
132
Robert Schuppenies14646332008-08-10 11:01:53 +0000133- Issue #1342811: Fix leak in Tkinter.Menu.delete. Commands associated to
134 menu entries were not deleted.
135
Brett Cannon83e81842008-08-09 23:30:55 +0000136- Copied the implementation of reduce() to _functools.reduce() to have a
137 version that did not raise a DeprecationWarning under -3.
138
Antoine Pitrou76b8bee2008-08-09 17:27:23 +0000139- Issue #3205: When iterating over a BZ2File fails allocating memory, raise
140 a MemoryError rather than silently stop the iteration.
141
Guido van Rossum59ce9012008-08-09 14:55:34 +0000142- Issue #3487: sre "bytecode" validator. Passing invalid "re-bytecode"
143 to _sre.compile() will now be rejected. This should not affect anybody
144 since the re.compile() function never generates invalid re-bytecode.
145
Skip Montanaroa032bf42008-08-08 22:52:51 +0000146- Issue #3436: Make csv.DictReader's fieldnames attribute a property so that
147 upon first access it can be automatically initialized from the csv file if
148 it wasn't initialized during instantiation.
149
Brett Cannon3aa2a492008-08-06 22:28:09 +0000150- Issue #2338: Create imp.reload() to help with transitioning to Python 3.0 as
151 the reload() built-in has been removed.
152
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000153- Changed code in the following modules/packages to remove warnings raised
Brett Cannonc1b76e42008-08-09 23:06:16 +0000154 while running under the ``-3`` flag: aifc, asynchat, asyncore, bdb, bsddb,
Brett Cannon047e4a92008-08-17 04:16:04 +0000155 ConfigParser, cookielib, csv, difflib, distutils, DocXMLRPCServer, email,
156 filecmp, fileinput, inspect, logging, modulefinder, pdb, pickle, profile,
157 pstats, pydoc, re, rlcompleter, SimpleXMLRPCServer, shelve, socket,
158 subprocess, sqlite3, tarfile, Tkinter, test.test_support, textwrap,
159 threading, tokenize, traceback, urlparse, wsgiref, xml, xmlrpclib.
Brett Cannon7e30b672008-08-04 21:52:25 +0000160
Lars Gustäbel727bd0b2008-08-02 11:26:39 +0000161- Issue #3039: Fix tarfile.TarFileCompat.writestr() which always
162 raised an AttributeError.
163
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000164- Issue #2523: Fix quadratic behaviour when read()ing a binary file without
Antoine Pitroude781a42008-08-09 12:43:23 +0000165 asking for a specific length. This problem only affected files opened
166 using the new "io" module, not the built-in open() function.
Benjamin Peterson01a24322008-07-28 23:35:27 +0000167
Mark Dickinsonfe84cce2008-07-27 06:39:07 +0000168- Issue #3449: Update decimal module to use most recent specification
169 (v. 1.68) and tests (v. 2.58) from IBM.
170
Skip Montanarof9ac43f2008-07-27 00:50:41 +0000171- Issue 3437: Bug fix in robotparser parsing of Allow: lines.
172
Raymond Hettinger8c664e82008-07-25 18:43:33 +0000173- Issue 1592: Improve error reporting when operations are attempted
174 on a closed shelf.
175

181 invalid arguments.
182
183- Issue #3302: Fix several crashes when calling locale's gettext functions
184 with None arguments.
185
186- Issue #3389: Allow resolving dotted names for handlers in logging
187 configuration files.
188
189- Deprecate the sunaudio module for removal in Python 3.0.
190
Antoine Pitrou5fdfa3e2008-07-25 19:42:26 +0000191- Issue #3394: zipfile.writestr sets external attributes when passed a
192 file name rather than a ZipInfo instance, so files are extracted with
193 mode 0600 rather than 000 under Unix.
194
Gregory P. Smitha36f8fe2008-08-04 00:13:29 +0000195- Issue #1857: subprocess.Popen.poll gained an additional _deadstate keyword
196 argument in python 2.5, this broke code that subclassed Popen to include its
197 own poll method. Fixed my moving _deadstate to an _internal_poll method.
198

Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000204Documentation
205-------------
206
Nick Coghlan6e8fef02008-08-18 13:14:22 +0000207- Issue #2235: the C API function PyObject_HashNotImplemented and its
208 interaction with the tp_hash slot (added in 2.6b2) are now documented
209
Nick Coghlan2a0c2b12008-08-04 12:47:17 +0000210- Issue #643841: The language reference now provides more detailed
211 coverage of the lookup process for special methods. The disclaimers
212 regarding lack of coverage of new-style classes have also been
213 removed, since the coverage is now fairly reasonable.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc90d07172008-07-21 21:36:24 +0000219*Release date: 17-Jul-2008*
220
Raymond Hettingere3ae6552008-06-20 04:18:15 +0000221Core and Builtins
222-----------------
223
Georg Brandl3e483f62008-07-16 22:57:41 +0000224- Issue #3156: Fix inconsistent behavior of the bytearray type: all
225 its methods now allow for items objects that can be converted to
226 an integer using operator.index().
227
Mark Dickinson64b7e502008-07-16 09:40:03 +0000228- Issue #3360: Fix incorrect parsing of '020000000000.0', which
229 produced a ValueError instead of giving the correct float.
230
Eric Smitha5fa5a22008-07-16 00:11:49 +0000231- Issue #3083: Add alternate (#) formatting for bin, oct, hex output
232 for str.format(). This adds the prefix 0b, 0o, or 0x, respectively.
233
Mark Dickinson7103aa42008-07-15 19:08:33 +0000234- Issue #3008: the float type has a new instance method 'float.hex'
235 and a new class method 'float.fromhex' to convert floating-point
236 numbers to and from hexadecimal strings, respectively.
237
Nick Coghlan6d6bd442008-07-15 15:40:22 +0000238- Issue #2235: __hash__ is once again inherited by default. To allow
239 collections.Hashable to remain meaningful in the presence of the
240 default hash implementation (object.__hash__), it is now possible
241 to explicit block inheritance of hash by setting __hash__=None at
242 the Python level, or tp_hash=PyObject_HashNotImplemented at the C
243 level.
244
Nick Coghlanb028f502008-07-13 14:52:36 +0000245- Issue #3221: Issue a RuntimeWarning instead of raising SystemError if
246 the parent module cannot be found while performing an absolute import.
247 This means that an incorrectly defined __package__ attribute will
248 now only prevent relative imports in that module rather than causing
249 all imports from that module to fail.
250
Nick Coghlan14ff9942008-07-08 14:21:42 +0000251- Issue #2517: Allow unicode messages in Exceptions again by correctly
252 bypassing the instance dictionary when looking up __unicode__ on
253 new-style classes.
254
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcbdd941f2008-07-01 20:38:04 +0000255- Issue #3242: Fix a crash inside the print statement, if sys.stdout is
256 set to a custom object whose write() method happens to install
257 another file in sys.stdout.
258
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc1f40c8a2008-06-30 22:42:40 +0000259- Issue #3088: Corrected a race condition in classes derived from
260 threading.local: the first member set by a thread could be saved in
261 another thread's dictionary.
262
Mark Dickinson1ec2fcd2008-06-20 14:53:43 +0000263- Issue #3004: Minor change to slice.indices(): the start and stop
264 arguments are now treated identically, making the behaviour easier
265 to describe and understand. For example, slice(None, -10,
266 1).indices(9) now returns (0, 0, 1) instead of (0, -1, 1), and
267 slice(None, 10, -1).indices(10) returns (9, 9, -1) instead of (9,
268 10, -1).
269
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000270- Issue #3219: Calling a function with repeated keyword arguments,
271 f(a=2, a=23), would not cause a syntax error. This was a regression
272 from 2.4 caused by the switch to the new compiler.
Benjamin Peterson175e4d92008-07-01 19:34:52 +0000273
Georg Brandl278fc502008-07-19 12:46:12 +0000274- Issue #2862: Make int and float freelist management consistent with
275 other freelists. Changes their CompactFreeList apis into
276 ClearFreeList apis and calls them via gc.collect().
Gregory P. Smith2fe77062008-07-06 03:35:58 +0000277
Brett Cannon8bb8fa52008-07-02 01:57:08 +0000278Library
279-------
280
Thomas Heller57adf222008-08-14 19:10:48 +0000281- Issue #3554: ctypes.string_at and ctypes.wstring_at did call Python
282 api functions without holding the GIL, which could lead to a fatal
283 error when they failed.
284
Martin v. Löwisaabf4042008-08-02 07:20:25 +0000285- Issue #799428: Fix Tkinter.Misc._nametowidget to unwrap Tcl command objects.
286
Jesse Noller7fb96402008-07-17 21:01:05 +0000287- Issue #3395: fix reference in test_multiprocessing to old debugInfo method
288
Georg Brandla24869a2008-07-16 22:33:18 +0000289- Issue #3312: Fix two crashes in sqlite3.
290
Georg Brandl86cbf812008-07-16 21:31:41 +0000291- Issue #1608818: Fix misbehavior in os.listdir() if readdir() fails.
292
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000293- Issue #3125: Remove copy_reg in multiprocessing and replace it with
294 ForkingPickler.register() to resolve conflict with ctypes.
295
Vinay Sajip51e65192008-07-18 09:01:10 +0000296- Issue #3090: Fixed ARCHFLAGS parsing on OS/X
Jesse Noller13e9d582008-07-16 14:32:36 +0000297
Thomas Heller880f5292008-07-15 19:39:38 +0000298- Issue #3313: Fixed a crash when a failed dlopen() call does not set
299 a valid dlerror() message.
300
Thomas Heller2bad6572008-07-15 17:19:50 +0000301- Issue #3258: Fixed a crash when a ctypes POINTER type to an
302 incomplete structure was created.
303
Brett Cannon3d0b9f02008-07-13 01:15:07 +0000304- Issue #3339: dummy_thread.acquire() should not return None.
305
Raymond Hettingerb01713e2008-07-10 14:34:57 +0000306- Issue #3285: Fractions from_float() and from_decimal() accept Integral arguments.
307
Andrew M. Kuchlingcc3f2b12008-07-10 14:43:31 +0000308- Issue #3301: Bisect module behaved badly when lo was negative.
Raymond Hettinger3cd1e422008-07-10 14:03:19 +0000309
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc0f7cddc2008-07-06 21:34:39 +0000310- Issue #839496: SimpleHTTPServer used to open text files in text mode. This is

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000783- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
784 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
785 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
786 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``

788 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
789 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support

851-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000852
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000853- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
854 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
855 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
856 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
857 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
858 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
859 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
860 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
861 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
862 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
863 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
864 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
865 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
866 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
867 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
868 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
869 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
870 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
871 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
872 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
873
874 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
875 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
876 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
877 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
878 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
879 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
880 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
881 access to the underlying socket used.
882
883 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
884 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
885 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000886
887 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000888 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,

890 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
891
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000892 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test

1160-----------------
1161
Fred Drakea8ee94b2008-03-01 02:45:07 +00001162- Issue #2051: pyc and pyo files are no longer created with permission
Barry Warsaw52973612008-03-01 02:23:38 +00001163 644. The mode is now inherited from the py file.
Christian Heimes40346852008-02-23 17:52:07 +00001164
Georg Brandlad61bc82008-02-23 15:11:18 +00001165- Issue #2067: file.__exit__() now calls subclasses' close() method.
1166
1167- Patch #1759: Backport of PEP 3129 class decorators.
Christian Heimes5224d282008-02-23 15:01:05 +00001168
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001169- Issue #1881: An internal parser limit has been increased. Also see
Facundo Batistafc2d0102008-02-23 12:01:13 +00001170 issue 215555 for a discussion.
1171
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +00001172- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
1173 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
1174 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
1175 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
1176 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
1177 module is:
1178 from future_builtins import hex, oct
1179
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +00001180- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
1181 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
1182 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
1183 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
1184 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
1185 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
1186
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +00001187- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
1188 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a
1189 __format__() method to object, str, unicode, int, long, float, and
1190 datetime; the class string.Formatter; and the C API
1191 PyObject_Format().
1192
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001193- Fixed several potential crashes, all caused by specially crafted
1194 __del__ methods exploiting objects in temporarily inconsistent
1195 state.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc632fad32008-02-16 20:55:24 +00001196
Vinay Sajipb7edfc42008-04-02 21:10:23 +00001197- Issue #2115: Important speedup in setting __slot__ attributes. Also
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001198 prevent a possible crash: an Abstract Base Class would try to access
1199 a slot on a registered virtual subclass.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc60d6c7f2008-02-15 21:22:45 +00001200
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001201- Fixed repr() and str() of complex numbers with infinity or nan as
1202 real or imaginary part.

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001204- Clear all free lists during a gc.collect() of the highest generation
1205 in order to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back
1206 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +00001207
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001208- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a
1209 subclass of collections.defaultdict, if its default_factory is set
1210 to a bound method.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arcb01aa432008-02-08 00:56:02 +00001211
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +00001212- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free
1213 list was not freed on interpreter shutdown.
1214
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001215- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256
1216 entries each.
Christian Heimes6075a822008-02-06 12:44:34 +00001217
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001218- Patch #1953: Added ``sys._compact_freelists()`` and the C API

1223 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
1224 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +00001225
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001226- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001238- Patch #1473257: generator objects gain a gi_code attribute. This is
1239 the same object as the func_code attribute of the function that
1240 produced the generator.
Georg Brandl0cdf9a32008-01-26 14:14:20 +00001241
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +00001242- Issue #1920: "while 0" statements were completely removed by the
1243 compiler, even in the presence of an "else" clause, which is
1244 supposed to be run when the condition is false. Now the compiler
1245 correctly emits bytecode for the "else" suite.
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +00001246

Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +00001426- Bug #1683368: The object.__init__() and object.__new__() methods are
1427 now stricter in rejecting excess arguments. The only time when
1428 either allows excess arguments is when it is not overridden and the
1429 other one is. For backwards compatibility, when both are
1430 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +00001431 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature
