97 passed a value less than or equal to zero.
98
Brett Cannone9746892008-04-12 23:44:07 +000099- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the original Python
100 code has been kept as backup). This will allow for using the 'warning's
101 machinery in such places as the parser where use of pure Python code is not
Brett Cannonb457dda2008-05-02 02:25:09 +0000102 possible. Both the ``showarning()`` and ``formatwarning()`` gain an
103 optional 'line' argument which is not called by default for
Brett Cannon8a232cc2008-05-05 05:32:07 +0000104 backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting ``warnings.showwarning()`` to
105 an implementation that lacks support for the ``line`` argument will raise a
106 DeprecationWarning.

125 data types
126
Neal Norwitz2b0bea52008-04-25 03:40:17 +0000127- Issue #2682: ctypes callback functions no longer contain a cyclic
Thomas Hellerbf027c42008-04-24 18:14:19 +0000128 reference to themselves.
129
Gregory P. Smithd59fefb2008-04-22 08:11:33 +0000130- The getpass module has been improved on Unix. It now uses /dev/tty
131 by default and uses stderr instead of stdout. A GetPassWarning is
132 issued when input echo cannot be controlled.
Gregory P. Smith41e30182008-04-21 21:31:08 +0000133
Skip Montanarob131f042008-04-18 20:35:46 +0000134- Issue #2014: Allow XML-RPC datetime objects to have dates before

148 extension modules between 32 and 64 bit platforms. See the distutls
149 build documentation for more information.
150
Gregory P. Smithaa63d0d2008-04-06 23:11:17 +0000151- Issue #815646: Individual file objects may now be used from multiple
152 threads at once without fear of crashing the Python interpreter. If
153 file.close() is called while an object is in use by another thread
154 an IOError exception will be raised and the file will not be closed.
155
Thomas Hellerf7906482008-04-04 19:43:25 +0000156- The bundled libffi copy is now in sync with the recently released
157 libffi3.0.5 version, apart from some small changes to

Fred Drake46c58c12008-04-04 05:41:30 +0000160- Issue #2385: distutils.core.run_script() makes __file__ available, so the
161 controlled environment will more closely mirror the typical script
162 environment. This supports setup.py scripts that refer to data files.
163
Barry Warsawba437742008-04-04 01:34:41 +0000164Tests
165-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000166- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining ports
167 to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an effort to
168 facilitate running multiple instances of the entire regression test suite
169 in parallel without issue. test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such
170 that it will always return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case
171 with the previous implementation, especially if socket options had been
172 set that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
173 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception if it
174 is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the SO_REUSEADDR or
175 SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if available, bind_port()
176 will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on the socket it's been passed.
177 This currently only applies to Windows. This option prevents any other
178 sockets from binding to the host/port we've bound to, thus removing the
179 possibility of the 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it,
180 that occurs when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a
181 host/port that's already been bound by another socket. The optional
182 preferred port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
183 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
184
185 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will pass
186 a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an unused port.
187 The temporary socket object is then closed and deleted, and the port is
188 returned. This method should only be used for obtaining an unused port
189 in order to pass to an external program (i.e. the -accept [port] argument
190 to openssl's s_server mode) or as a parameter to a server-oriented class
191 that doesn't give you direct access to the underlying socket used.
192
193 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used for
194 the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and connect).
195
196 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
197 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
198 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
199 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
200
201 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test suite to
202 run in parallel without issue.

Thomas Hellerdc96a772008-04-04 10:07:55 +0000209- Issue #2544: On HP-UX systems, use 'gcc -shared' for linking when
210 gcc is used as compiler.
211
Ronald Oussoren580c7fe2008-05-02 19:45:11 +0000212- Issue #2573: On MacOS X it is now possible to install the framework
213 with a different name using --with-framework-name=NAME.

219 to the new files Include/pymath.h and Python/pymath.h for
220 platforms which provide the functions through their libm. The
221 files also contains several helpers and constants for math.
222
Benjamin Petersona692c4d2008-04-27 02:28:02 +0000223- Added a new convenience function, PyErr_WarnPy3k, for issuing Py3k

465
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000466- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
467 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
468 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
469 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
470 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
471 module is:
472 from future_builtins import hex, oct
473
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000474- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
475 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
476 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
477 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
478 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
479 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).

493

Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000498 to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back memory to the
499 OS earlier.

639 shifts from ints to longs.
640
Brett Cannon0b14f242007-09-30 19:45:10 +0000641- Issue #1686386: Tuple's tp_repr did not take into account the possibility of
642 having a self-referential tuple, which is possible from C code. Nor did
643 object's tp_str consider that a type's tp_str could do something that could
644 lead to an inifinite recursion. Py_ReprEnter() and Py_EnterRecursiveCall(),
645 respectively, fixed the issues.

660 depth updates/checks. Required the creation of a static RuntimeError

710 now stricter in rejecting excess arguments. The only time when
711 either allows excess arguments is when it is not overridden and the
712 other one is. For backwards compatibility, when both are
713 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +0000714 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature
715 as supported by type.__new__().
Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +0000716
Georg Brandl2b869942007-03-17 16:08:45 +0000717- Patch #1675423: PyComplex_AsCComplex() now tries to convert an object

Amaury Forgeot d'Arccab3d982008-02-03 22:51:43 +00002073 it does not steal a reference to the added item.

2089 results with huge strings.
