Barry Warsawba437742008-04-04 01:34:41 +0000119

132 passed a value less than or equal to zero.
133
Brett Cannone9746892008-04-12 23:44:07 +0000134- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the original Python
135 code has been kept as backup). This will allow for using the 'warning's
136 machinery in such places as the parser where use of pure Python code is not
Brett Cannonb457dda2008-05-02 02:25:09 +0000137 possible. Both the ``showarning()`` and ``formatwarning()`` gain an
138 optional 'line' argument which is not called by default for
Brett Cannon8a232cc2008-05-05 05:32:07 +0000139 backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting ``warnings.showwarning()`` to
140 an implementation that lacks support for the ``line`` argument will raise a
141 DeprecationWarning.
Brett Cannone9746892008-04-12 23:44:07 +0000142

164
Gregory P. Smithd59fefb2008-04-22 08:11:33 +0000165- The getpass module has been improved on Unix. It now uses /dev/tty
166 by default and uses stderr instead of stdout. A GetPassWarning is
167 issued when input echo cannot be controlled.
Gregory P. Smith41e30182008-04-21 21:31:08 +0000168

183 extension modules between 32 and 64 bit platforms. See the distutls
184 build documentation for more information.
185
Gregory P. Smithaa63d0d2008-04-06 23:11:17 +0000186- Issue #815646: Individual file objects may now be used from multiple
187 threads at once without fear of crashing the Python interpreter. If
188 file.close() is called while an object is in use by another thread
189 an IOError exception will be raised and the file will not be closed.
190
Thomas Hellerf7906482008-04-04 19:43:25 +0000191- The bundled libffi copy is now in sync with the recently released
192 libffi3.0.5 version, apart from some small changes to

194
Fred Drake46c58c12008-04-04 05:41:30 +0000195- Issue #2385: distutils.core.run_script() makes __file__ available, so the
196 controlled environment will more closely mirror the typical script
197 environment. This supports setup.py scripts that refer to data files.
198
Barry Warsawba437742008-04-04 01:34:41 +0000199Tests
200-----
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000201- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining ports
202 to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an effort to
203 facilitate running multiple instances of the entire regression test suite
204 in parallel without issue. test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such
205 that it will always return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case
206 with the previous implementation, especially if socket options had been
207 set that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
208 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception if it
209 is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the SO_REUSEADDR or
210 SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if available, bind_port()
211 will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on the socket it's been passed.
212 This currently only applies to Windows. This option prevents any other
213 sockets from binding to the host/port we've bound to, thus removing the
214 possibility of the 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it,
215 that occurs when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a
216 host/port that's already been bound by another socket. The optional
217 preferred port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
218 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
219
220 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will pass
221 a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an unused port.
222 The temporary socket object is then closed and deleted, and the port is
223 returned. This method should only be used for obtaining an unused port
224 in order to pass to an external program (i.e. the -accept [port] argument
225 to openssl's s_server mode) or as a parameter to a server-oriented class
226 that doesn't give you direct access to the underlying socket used.
227
228 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used for
229 the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and connect).
230
231 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
232 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
233 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
234 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
235
236 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test suite to
237 run in parallel without issue.

243
Thomas Hellerdc96a772008-04-04 10:07:55 +0000244- Issue #2544: On HP-UX systems, use 'gcc -shared' for linking when
245 gcc is used as compiler.

248 with a different name using --with-framework-name=NAME.

254 to the new files Include/pymath.h and Python/pymath.h for
255 platforms which provide the functions through their libm. The
256 files also contains several helpers and constants for math.
257
Benjamin Petersona692c4d2008-04-27 02:28:02 +0000258- Added a new convenience function, PyErr_WarnPy3k, for issuing Py3k
259 warnings.

510 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
511 module is:
512 from future_builtins import hex, oct

Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000514- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
515 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
516 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
517 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
518 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be

Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000538 to allow pymalloc to free more arenas. Python may give back memory to the
539 OS earlier.

543
Christian Heimesf75dbef2008-02-08 00:11:31 +0000544- Fixed a minor memory leak in dictobject.c. The content of the free

546
Christian Heimes6075a822008-02-06 12:44:34 +0000547- Limit free list of method and builtin function objects to 256 entries

571 generator.
572
Amaury Forgeot d'Arc31eaafe2008-01-24 22:59:25 +0000573- Issue #1920: "while 0" statements were completely removed by the compiler,

679 shifts from ints to longs.
680
Brett Cannon0b14f242007-09-30 19:45:10 +0000681- Issue #1686386: Tuple's tp_repr did not take into account the possibility of
682 having a self-referential tuple, which is possible from C code. Nor did
683 object's tp_str consider that a type's tp_str could do something that could
684 lead to an inifinite recursion. Py_ReprEnter() and Py_EnterRecursiveCall(),
685 respectively, fixed the issues.

Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +0000749- Bug #1683368: The object.__init__() and object.__new__() methods are
750 now stricter in rejecting excess arguments. The only time when
751 either allows excess arguments is when it is not overridden and the
752 other one is. For backwards compatibility, when both are
753 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +0000754 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature
755 as supported by type.__new__().
Guido van Rossum143b5642007-03-23 04:58:42 +0000756
Georg Brandl2b869942007-03-17 16:08:45 +0000757- Patch #1675423: PyComplex_AsCComplex() now tries to convert an object

Amaury Forgeot d'Arccab3d982008-02-03 22:51:43 +00002113 it does not steal a reference to the added item.

2129 results with huge strings.
2130

2132 and Py_REFCNT.
