Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000346- Issue #1631171: Re-implement the 'warnings' module in C (the
347 original Python code has been kept as backup). This will allow for
348 using the 'warning's machinery in such places as the parser where
349 use of pure Python code is not possible. Both the ``showarning()``
350 and ``formatwarning()`` gain an optional 'line' argument which is
351 not called by default for backwards-compatibility reasons. Setting
352 ``warnings.showwarning()`` to an implementation that lacks support
353 for the ``line`` argument will raise a DeprecationWarning.

Mark Hammond495cf992008-04-07 01:53:39 +0000396 extension modules between 32 and 64 bit platforms. See the distutls
397 build documentation for more information.
398
Gregory P. Smithaa63d0d2008-04-06 23:11:17 +0000399- Issue #815646: Individual file objects may now be used from multiple
400 threads at once without fear of crashing the Python interpreter. If
401 file.close() is called while an object is in use by another thread
402 an IOError exception will be raised and the file will not be closed.

410 script environment. This supports setup.py scripts that refer to
411 data files.

Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000415
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000416- Issue #2550: The approach used by client/server code for obtaining
417 ports to listen on in network-oriented tests has been refined in an
418 effort to facilitate running multiple instances of the entire
419 regression test suite in parallel without issue.
420 test_support.bind_port() has been fixed such that it will always
421 return a unique port -- which wasn't always the case with the
422 previous implementation, especially if socket options had been set
423 that affected address reuse (i.e. SO_REUSEADDR, SO_REUSEPORT). The
424 new implementation of bind_port() will actually raise an exception
425 if it is passed an AF_INET/SOCK_STREAM socket with either the
426 SO_REUSEADDR or SO_REUSEPORT socket option set. Furthermore, if
427 available, bind_port() will set the SO_EXCLUSIVEADDRUSE option on
428 the socket it's been passed. This currently only applies to
429 Windows. This option prevents any other sockets from binding to the
430 host/port we've bound to, thus removing the possibility of the
431 'non-deterministic' behaviour, as Microsoft puts it, that occurs
432 when a second SOCK_STREAM socket binds and accepts to a host/port
433 that's already been bound by another socket. The optional preferred
434 port parameter to bind_port() has been removed. Under no
435 circumstances should tests be hard coding ports!
436
437 test_support.find_unused_port() has also been introduced, which will
438 pass a temporary socket object to bind_port() in order to obtain an
439 unused port. The temporary socket object is then closed and
440 deleted, and the port is returned. This method should only be used
441 for obtaining an unused port in order to pass to an external program
442 (i.e. the -accept [port] argument to openssl's s_server mode) or as
443 a parameter to a server-oriented class that doesn't give you direct
444 access to the underlying socket used.
445
446 Finally, test_support.HOST has been introduced, which should be used
447 for the host argument of any relevant socket calls (i.e. bind and
448 connect).
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000449
450 The following tests were updated to following the new conventions:
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000451 test_socket, test_smtplib, test_asyncore, test_ssl, test_httplib,
Trent Nelsone41b0062008-04-08 23:47:30 +0000452 test_poplib, test_ftplib, test_telnetlib, test_socketserver,
453 test_asynchat and test_socket_ssl.
454
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000455 It is now possible for multiple instances of the regression test
456 suite to run in parallel without issue.

Amaury Forgeot d'Arc9a0d3462008-03-23 09:55:29 +0000510- Issue #1477: With narrow Unicode builds, the unicode escape sequence
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000511 \Uxxxxxxxx did not accept values outside the Basic Multilingual

514 this case, like normal unicode literals and the 'unicode-escape'

734
Eric Smitha73fbe72008-02-23 03:09:44 +0000735- Added the future_builtins module, which contains hex() and oct().
736 These are the PEP 3127 version of these functions, designed to be
737 compatible with the hex() and oct() builtins from Python 3.0. They
738 differ slightly in their output formats from the existing, unchanged
739 Python 2.6 builtins. The expected usage of the future_builtins
740 module is:
741 from future_builtins import hex, oct
742
Eric Smith7ef40bf2008-02-20 23:34:22 +0000743- Issue #1600: Modifed PyOS_ascii_formatd to use at most 2 digit
744 exponents for exponents with absolute value < 100. Follows C99
745 standard. This is a change on Windows, which would use 3 digits.
746 Also, added 'n' to the formats that PyOS_ascii_formatd understands,
747 so that any alterations it does to the resulting string will be
748 available in stringlib/formatter.h (for float.__format__).
749
Eric Smith5a3c1352008-02-19 13:21:56 +0000750- Implemented PEP 3101, Advanced String Formatting. This adds a new
751 builtin format(); a format() method for str and unicode; a

754 PyObject_Format().

769 memory to the OS earlier.
Christian Heimes3b718a72008-02-14 12:47:33 +0000770
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000771- Issue #2045: Fix an infinite recursion triggered when printing a

773 to a bound method.

786 calls. Python expected the return type int but the fork familie
787 returns pi_t.
Christian Heimes951cc0f2008-01-31 23:08:23 +0000788
Georg Brandl3ee81df2008-05-17 18:14:43 +0000789- Issue #1678380: Fix a bug that identifies 0j and -0j when they

993 overridden, it is a deprecation warning (for now; maybe a Py3k
Guido van Rossum234b1ff2007-03-23 19:39:01 +0000994 warning later). Also, type.__init__() insists on the same signature
